A midfield two of Lucas and Gerrard is never going to work, Lucas is the better of the two in there at the moment. It should be Lucas and Henderson in there to give midfield some energy. The movement off the ball is non-existent and we never really offered a goal threat. Sterling isn't a striker, he tries his best and he's a good player but that isn't his position, also it doesn't help (whoever is in that role) that the striker is left isolated.

I thought Mignolet had a better game today, he actually caught a few things, the defence was still all over the place but I thought Sakho had a decent game. Coutinho was our best player.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Agreed. And put someone else RWB.

In fairness to Rodgers I think if you have Gerrard he's too good to leave out. He's the captain and he needs to be in the team when fit to play. But he can't play him in a central role with Lucas. It never works these days, if ever.

In fairness, I think it's more we can't afford not to play Henderson central. He just offers so much more front & back because of his energy levels.

What we lacked was energy on the pitch and after they got level I really worried as I didn't think we had any legs in the team by that point.

It was a fantastic effort from the players in the last ten minutes to try and find a goal but it wasn't to be. Two mad minutes cost us and that's the story of this game, but happens to often.
Yeh he does. Style of play and tempo completely. Gerrard and lucas cannot play together.. We've seen this time and time again. It should have and always should be lucas and henderson in the middle.

Terrible management and another case of playing players in wrong positions. Familiar sight these days and costing us. It's the management and set up that is the main problem at lfc.

Apparently we have won 3 of the 14 games Gerrard has started this season. That can't be right.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

We've been getting goals from midfield and you can't have that as your main source of goals, we need someone up top, preferably two, capable of putting a good percentage of the chances we make away and Sterling isn't it. Agree on Gerrard though, he offers nothing but lethargy and a good penalty.

I was thinking though, bar Lallana, there's no one else who's a regular starter for us who I'd fancy to score our penalties!

Agreed, but if he's rested Gerrard he should start today and rest Lucas.

Sterling is doing a job and he still offered a threat in behind, but because there were tired legs out there we didn't press as we could and force mistakes in dangerous areas. Leicester are the complete opposite to Swansea in that they'll be happy to kick it long and avoid our press anyway and look to turn us round quickly and get in behind our wide men. Because they did that it opened up the pitch and our players were going up and down all game and in the end, because we couldn't keep the game in their half, we ended up having to stop sending players forward so much and be more calculating going forwards.

Anyway, everything worked tbh until the two minute period. That I don't even know if I wanna see it again.

Not sure I agree with that.

He's still got something in the tank for sure but not for 90 minutes in 95% of the games Liverpool play.

I've been saying for a while that we should be playing Gerrard in one of the attacking midfield roles when he is fit - which is probably 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 games. It is his best position and if he would bust his guts playing there knowing that he was going to get a decent rest before his next game he would be great, much better than being able to play more games in the position he's playing at the moment as he is much less effective there.

Of course we need a proper striker but my point was that we were managing well without one the past few weeks, it wasn't ideal but it was largely effective and then Brendan ****s it all up by selecting a past it legend who offers nothing from open play these days.

It's been a few years since Gerrard was too good to leave out. He's completely shot now, the legs have gone.

We invariably play much better when he doesn't play. Today's game was a perfect example of why he should no longer be a starter. He's simply not good enough anymore.

He slows the play down dramatically. Without him our short passing, ball retention and the tempo of our play are all much, much better. He offers absolutely nothing nowadays

It would be best for all concerned if he opted to take the opportunity to end his career abroad rather than hang around the squad for one more season.

Aye agree. It's not just that he is more effective up field, but he has an actual negative impact when he's acting as a DM or at the back of midfield. Why we can see all this but Rodgers can't, is beyond me.

Gerrard should be used as an impact player now,the club has to build a side without him

For me, I'd have rotated Gerrard for Lucas and kept Hendo Central. In fairness Schlupp is the danger man so I see why Rodgers went with that. Annoying as if you take away that two minute spell, they didn't really threaten at all. Sadly, we only started to have a go late on when Leicester decided to drop.
I expected more against Leicester. Maybe I have yet to hit rock bottom.
