    New Boys

Well half way into the season and the £110m wasted that gets bandied about isn't looking quite so **** is it?

Lallana is quality. No doubt we paid top whack but that's the way sometimes. Frustrating the knocks are interrupting his and the teams progression. He's a clever player and as the team gets better so will he.

Markovic is starting to show real progress. In the first few games it was like he was running in tar, no strength or belief. I always said it would be a signing for next season. But by taking him out of the firing line and bringing him back in, looks like Rodgers has done well. Its clear the other players trust his ability. Lack of real pace is a shame, but his runs are clever and he could be massive for us.

Lovren. No doubt the lack of confidence is making him appear worse than he is. But I hate him. He has no idea where to position himself, he dives into tackles and losses people. Get him out, I see nothing worth keeping him for.

Moreno. Left backs with no right foot worry me. In your own box, you will need to use your swinger on occasion, if you don't, you will concede goals. I love his energy and enthusiasm. He has talent and its early days. Not first choice yet.

Lambert appears to have been made into a subuteo figure in the summer. He can't move. Oil tankers turn quicker. Real shame. Another suffering from the weight of the world on his shoulders, its literally stopping him running.

Balotelli. The dogs abuse he gets off our own fans is disgusting. Never going to be a non stop runner. That's not his way. In his recent cameos there's certainly been evidence of more of a work ethic. Hes trying to adapt to the team. He needs a goal and I reckon it will make a big difference. He's getting frustrated. It hasn't helped coming into a team that for several months has been so negative. People prefer to laugh at him falling over rather than appaulding the holdup play. Let other fans laugh, we should get behind him.

Manquilo. Looks alright. Good energy. Decent signing.

Can is a real player. This is a great signing at 10m. Comfortable on the ball, strong and lovely passer. If he keeps processing then we could have a 40m player on our hands. Easily.

So overall, we have done pretty well in the market. I fully expect us to finish strongly.

I was with you until Balotelli. Whatever abuse he gets pales in comparison to that received by other players. I'd never abuse a Liverpool player but Balotelli to me is deserving of the criticism he gets. Offers nothing and doesn't score goals. It feels like people including yourself defend him on name alone.

Our summer business looks a lot better right now than a couple of months ago but it's sill tainted by the 40 million wasted on Balotelli, Lovren and Lambert.

Indeed, add the £10m of Origi and that's £50m we could've spent on decent starters. Which we needed.
            3rd place. Worst champions ever.

To be honest I only have issues with two players. Both are an easy to sort out...

Lovren, always seems to get caught out standing on his back foot. This is an easy fix.

Lambert. like Carroll just doesnt fit our playing style. Sell.

I hope it stops people parping on that Sturridge is his only good signing now.

I understand that but 40 million isn't exactly pocket change is it ?

I think cases can be made for all the players. As to why they were signed and as to why each player should be given more time. I don't have issues with individuals. Only a fool writes of a player so early. I still remember Lucas. Booed by the fans and he ended up a fantastic player until injury set him back.

Bottom line is that the longer a player remains, the better the chance of them proving people wrong. Particularly youngsters who have clearly evidenced potential in another league.

                      -----

My issue remain with the clubs philosophy of buying young talent instead of top players day to go now. All these players may end up superstars. But it strikes me of Arsenals business until recently where they just bought in young kids. The ones that come good were sold at great profit as they got fed up of seeing all the best players sold. The ones that didn't quite work out remained and dragged the club down.

I have no problem with buying a young star, but I think if you're taking punts on more than a couple each windows, you're taking huge risks as you wait for them to settle. At the very least, if you take gambles you have to make sure you're best players remain. When Luis left, it was clear we needed to spend the cash on a couple of world stars. Not a bunch of unproven kids. And not on players not suited (Rickie, fine as he's a plan B. But Mario? WTF?).

I hope if the kids come good the club don't look at that and assume they can just crack on following that strategy. Because in reality it's cost us millions in the CL and millions in the league.

No it isn't, but whether you spend £500k or £200m at different levels of football, the players you sign will not all work out. Even superstars have been failures when they've moved clubs.

With Rodgers it's simple. If the signing is a success it's down to the committee. If it's a failure it was a Rodgers signing. So the idiots say anyway.

For me there are positives and negatives for a lot of them

Lallana and Markovic started slowly but are now showing signs of promise, they still need to push on but the signs are looking positive.

Moreno reminds me of John Arne Riise, he looks capable going forward, seems to have the energy to get up and down the pitch, but seems to switch off somewhat defensively. For me the current system suits him as IMO he is more of a wingback than a full back. I think how much of a success he will be depends on whether we stick with a WB or revert to a back 4.

Lovren I was hoping would be a leader and organiser of the back line unfortunately he's not done that and he has sunk to such a level that he can't get in a team with 3 CBs. I really don't see a future for him unless things change significantly.

Can Looks promising although he hasn't been playing in his preferred position, I don't see him staying in the CB position so he may take a while to get used to playing in the midfield. But he does look a talented player.

Balotelli never really felt like the right signing, I think he is a decent player, but he really doesn't suit the way we play and it's painful and frustrating to watch.

Manquillo looks like he could develop into a decent fullback, hopefully this continues and we complete a permanent deal for him.

Lambert I thought would be a good back up striker. I think we envisioned him coming on in tight games and offering something different, but I think that works when the team is playing well. What has happened is we've often tried to start him and like Balotelli our system doesn't really suit him.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
