Everton vs Liverpool post match Thread

I think we were frustrating more so than poor. They set out to stifle us & therefore ruined any chance of a decent game of football. If that was us playing like that there'd be calls for Brendan's head.
I didn't think Joe Allen was anywhere near as bad as some have made out here & in the match thread. Stevie was as bad if not worse than has been made out though. That would have to be his worst performance for us cause I surely can't remember a worse one.
The sooner Sturridge finds his form the better as Sterling showed again that he's not a striker & his decision making at times is terrible. Seldom plays a team mate in but shoots from impossible angles etc.
Considering we were backing up from a midweek game a points not as bad as it looks but because they were so ****e it feels worse.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I thought that we got worse when Lucas went off, I thought the central midfield was largely ineffective. Ibe did well but the other attacking players did very little. Defensively we were ok, Skrtel and Can did well. Sakho got caught in possession too often, I know people on here say he has a moment every game, well today he had quite a few and we were lucky that they didn't cost us.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

And our know player with any attacking intent /ability was substituted.......with others let on out only sentiment? As good a way as any of putting it.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI thought that we got worse when Lucas went off, I thought the central midfield was largely ineffective. In fairness one of the issues you have with keepers going from somewhere like Sunderland were he is always busy, to Liverpool where he might only have to pull off the odd save, is the lack of concentration, and he demonstrated that today. Had few saves of not to make but then had to pull off a great one late on in the game.Originally posted by Redspin View PostI know Mignolet isn't particularly good, but I don't get all the praise he's getting for tonight's match. He had nothing to do whatsoever until he was called into action for the one and only time, to make the save from Coleman.
I thought Can was our best player, followed by Henderson. Ibe had a promising game. Sterling and Coutinho were way below par. As for Gerrard, he was utterly abysmal, shockingly bad. I confidently predicted that if we played him from the start the best we could hope for would be a draw. He slows the midfield down massively and offers precisely nothing to the team. At least he was out of harm's way further up the pitch.
I hate sentimentality in football and in pre-match threads some bozos were saying that he had to play today. I can only assume they either hadn't seen Gerrard play this season or that they don't care if we drop points with him buggering up the midfield.
Rodgers' blind spot about Gerrard is going to cost us points and places in the league.
The worst thing is that Everton were atrocious. They were there for the taking and just about any other team around us in the league would have won in a canter tonight by at least a couple of goals while not needing to get out of second gear. I can't remember a more toothless Everton at Goodison and us being under no pressure at all in the game. Still, it would only have needed a slip-up froma set-piece late in the game and we could have lost.
I was flicking between the 3 o'clock games on TV out here in Thailand and Spurs and Arsenal both looked average, while Southampton were downright poor at QPR, yet two of them pulled two points further away from us, while we have a poor Man U team with a great chance of beating an injury-hit West Ham tomorrow and also somehow pulling further away from us, despite being incredibly average.
Anyway, please no more Gerrard starting games. He's gone, shot to pieces, finished and his inclusion in the future will be the undoing of our season
Also I thought that he has been more commanding of his area in recent games and made some good claims on crosses etcThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

We've played a midweek game & we've got another one this week so squad rotation is important. I'm as baffled as anyone why gerrard played never lone stayed on the whole match.Originally posted by Dessy View PostAnd our know player with any attacking intent /ability was substituted.......with others let on out only sentiment? Totally agree with that. He's looked so much better recently.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostIn fairness one of the issues you have with keepers going from somewhere like Sunderland were he is always busy, to Liverpool where he might only have to pull off the odd save, is the lack of concentration, and he demonstrated that today. We handled them with ease, Skrtel, Can & Mig had solid games. Nobody ever looked like scoring. Sterling, Coutinho & Henderson really need some serious work on their shooting. IMO Sterling is never going to be a striker, his finishing is pretty lousy. Sturridge is way off what it has to be which is understandable.
Was a pretty terrible game, even for a derby bar one Hendo/Naismith incident was pretty tame. Toothless and even though we looked the better side... was a **** game. Both teams below par. For us considering the other results... a win was pretty essential. We have to beat Spurs now.

I thought we dominated but lacked that cutting edge. We controlled the game completely, which is very rare for a derby.
I understand the frustration at the result, but not the negativity.
It was nowhere near as bad a performance as some are making out.
We completely dominated the game except the last ~10 min of it, that was a complete mess on both sides.
We lacked penetration today, with and without Coutinho (at those blaming the sub). Everton wanted absolutly nothing but the point from the game and had nothing to offer. Standing behind the ball hoofing it for 90 min...
We didn't have the necessary movement up front today, but completely controlled the defensive side and midfield.
I think the worst part was Lucas forced off and replaced by Allen that never really managed to offer the last freedom for the midfielders in front of him.
A point is decent in this game, but disappointing considering how bad Everton were (are). Gained a point on Arsenal but lost two to Southampton and Tottenham and potentially United. We are close to fourth but we need to take a bit more advantage soon.

IMO coutinho and sturridge on the field at the same time could have yielded some chances, at least I think it was our best chance.Originally posted by Darkon View Post
