Sunday Times journalist Jonathan Northcroft was unconvinced by Everton manager Roberto Martinez's attempts to talk up Saturday's goalless Merseyside derby: "Roberto said something about 'asymmetric shapes' that drew sage nods from around the press room but nobody understood."

I didn't think we were bad to be honest, totally controlled most of the game. Didn't understand taking Coutinho off though and I feared the worst when Allen came on.
A poor return though I suppose when you consider how much of the ball we seemed to have. Everton are absolute sh*te.SakhoPotatoes

We had 15 minutes roughly in the 2nd half when we were on top, we had to score then but couldn't take our chances.
Ibe was promising, definitely done enough to stay in the team.
Gerrard, had no problem with him starting given Lallana was injured and Sturridge not ready but he shouldn't have been playing 90 minutes, he was dead weight last 20.Vive la France

Sterling really needs to stop being such a greedy ******* all the time, it is killing a lot of our attacks when he completely ignores the better options he has in the box. Gerrard has largely been gash recently but you can tell Sterling is really getting on his tits. Gotta feel sorry for Gerrard actually, he's gone from top dog for years and now nobody seems to want to pass to him or trust him with the ball. Sad to see
Any news on Lucas?Sack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge

This forum is amusing at times.
If we fail to win a game it's like the world has come to an end for around half the posters on here
Everton parked the bus. At home. In a derby. Can you imagine what this forum would be like if we'd done that in a derby at Anfield?
In my view this wasn't a must win game. The game coming up against Spurs is more important as they are one of our principal rivals for a top 4 spot. Plus they are currently 4 points ahead of us in the table.
I'm sure if we win in midweek all the doom mongers on here will be as happy as Larry again... until the next time we fail to win a match

I was thinking about when Liverpool took over from Everton as the top team in the city and came up with 1970. Here are the facts and figures that back that date up:
1888-1969
Everton....... 9 trophies... ave. att. 29,000... league derby wins... 41
Liverpool...... 8 trophies... ave. att. 28,500... league derby wins... 31
1970-2014
Everton....... 6 trophies... ave. att. 32,800... league derby wins... 16
Liverpool.....33 trophies... ave. att. 41,250... league derby wins... 42
Quite a striking change don't you think?
