How the hell is any game a write off let alone Man City? They arent all that and since they started financial doping in 2008 they have never won at Anfield.

Why mess so much with the back 3? If you want to argue about resting one then OK but resting 2 of 3 is crazy, and putting Lovren in the middle is crazy. Personally I'd keep a fixed back 3 that's working. Centre backs are hardly ever 'rested' if they are in form.
I can see the reason for putting Johnson instead of Ibe now that I think about it but Ibe is the form guy and we don't need to rest him. I'd leave him in.
Balotelli just isn't going to work there. Sturridge has missed half a season already. He can play in front of Lallana and Sterling. If he cannot play a complete 90 minutes then that's fine. That's what the bench is for. But he can definitely start both games.

Trip to Turkey on Thursday and a 12pm kick off on Sunday v the champions is ****e.I think it's great having all these important fixtures coming think and fast.Originally posted by danperkins View PostIt really has been a poxy run of fixtures... we've had few key injuries too, playing against a good side in Besiktas away (which will be like a cauldron) & then few days later playing City who have all their best players back and fit right on time....typical!
We've done so well recently but getting through the tie & beating City really is a tough ask.
It's reminding me a bit of 2001.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

All our rivals have to play each other too. It's just we have those games all close together. We should have the beating of United and a point away at Arsenal would be a good point. After that we need to win against the lesser teams, especially when the others are playing each other. When we are away to Swansea, United are playing Spurs so dropped points for one or both hopefully. Then we have games where we can take points off United and Arsenal and we follow that with a home game against Newcastle while United have to play City.
Still all to play for.

The weather was fkn atrocious. The fans did well to see out the 90mins.
I think performance wise, given the conditions it is hard to take too much from it or to look too deeply into it. Phil's goal won us the game, and was the only real moment of quality.
It was a great game to win.Modifying post.

We have an incredibly tough fixture list, which when we throw in Europa and FA cup games becomes even tougher. What makes it worse is that we are missing Lucas & Gerrard. Whatever your view on the both of them, having at least one to rotate with Hendo & Allen would do wonders. It's that reason why I'd consider drafting Lovren or Toure in for Can at the back. Just so we have an extra body to rotate at CM.
At present the only trick Rodgers has is to rely on marathon man Hendo, take Allen off for a breather and bump Can up.
As a team, yesterday So'ton ran more than us. But in Allen & Hedno we had the two top runners, with Coutinho in fourth. In tough games where we are getting the run around, we have to cover an incredible amount of distances. All that said, it's the travel to games that is the real killer, not the minutes played. I think we are lucky on this occasion that a home game follows on from an away trip to Turkey. Hopefully we won't have too many games of such distance away as the lesser lights get dumped out. Off the top of my head, only Zenit would be such a big problem.Forwards.......

Yeah just looking at that, they've a terrible run. Spurs still have United, Southampton and City still to play. Southampton have Spurs, Chelsea and City still to play. Arsenal obviously still have United, us and Chelsea still to play. All teams going for the final two spots in the top 4 have tough games left to play. I hope Spurs stay in the Europa for a long time especially if we go out of it.Originally posted by RichC View PostThe Mancs games after Sunderland and Newcastle are tough - Arsenal, Spurs, Us a break with Villa and then City and Chelsea. Those 5 games in 6 you'd hope will see them struggle

Arsenal have to most room for error but still not much, ourselves and Spurs have the least but defo still all to play for.
