I don't think that Roy Evans is the man but there is a very good case to be made for us to bring in a coach who has a different man management style. I have a suspicion that it may be that some of our players (I'm thinking mostly of Gerrard and Riise) respond well to Houlliers style of father figure management and are less responsive to Rafas more cerebral/thoughtful style. Personally I think that Gary Mac would have been the ideal man to do this but he was unavailable so we need to look for someone else.

Riise? The Riise who was publicly critical of Houllier? The Riise who's game has come on a bundle since Rafa took over? Don't think so.

On the subject of Evans coming back, why for God's sake? He's a failed club manager who's never had a sniff of a decent job since he left Liverpool. And he was treated with zero respect by the players when he had the job.
It would undermine Rafa to bring him in, and we are hardly in a crisis situation anyway. If Rafa isn't good enough he should be sacked, but the evidence suggests he is good enough and what we are experiencing is something of a blip.

          Good post mate
          And weoclome aboard
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

That was more a reference to Gerrards comments that Riise was a confidence player and needed people to build him up.

I think bringing Evans in is a bad idea but that doesn't mean that the staff around Rafa can't be improved. I think Rafa bought in a team that was very good, including Paco Herrera. Maybe Ablett is the man to come in and do the job but since we rearranged the coaching structure in the summer we haven't done aswell. It is thus reasonable to wonder wether Rafa might choose to bring in a new coach.

If Rafa CHOOSES to bring someone in, whoever it is, then I have no problem with that.

Should Roy Evans return to Liverpool?

Not as manager of course - but as Rafa's assistant in some capacity.

                IMO

Pros - Knows the club inside out, the expectations of the fans and the style of football thats expected. Could offer Rafa guidance and a wealth of experience in English football as to what is needed to, at the very least regularly challenge for the league.

Cons - I honestly cant think of one at this stage.

I dont see what we would have to lose, and it would be a win-win for Rafa, be it short term or otherwise.

What is it i'm missing that would make this a bad idea????
It's a weird idea to my mind.
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I would ALWAYS be able to find a place for Roy on the coaching staff. In my eyes he is one of the best coaches in the game, unfortunately one of the ****test managers, but his coaching knowledge is second too none. Also, if you analyze roys blood under a microscope you will see little liver birds swimming around in it.

                      Good research Paul.

He is a good coach but i doubt Rafa would bring him back in or would Roy want to come back in as he is working with Wales and alot of the old backroom staff at Liverpool are gone and its a new mentalility at Anfield

I think roy is too proud to go begging for a job at the club. But from what ive heard, if anything were to be offered, he would walk back. Which is nice to hear, as Roy was very bitter about the way he was shat on with the joint managership load of wank idea

Joke of a decision to that when it was done there was only going to be one winner in that double act.

We need something in the background it was muted that Aldo,Maca etc..... might be brought in will wait and see if they are need or indeed asked.
