Heskey was a confidence player and he, for the most part of his time with us, offered **** all and Pennant looks like doing the same.

Confidence players will never get us anywwhere we need players who are up for the fight week in and week out like, as much as I hate to say it, the chavs and the scum have.

im clutching at straws to be honest and i agree with you that he hasnt shown it anywhere else. i was hoping he would fulfill his potential with us but he looks worse than he did at brum

confidence players do my head in too, theyre unreliable and thats the last thing we need right now

johnny giles has being saying recently (on irish tv and radio) that he reckons after seeing a good bit of pennant that he has a sublime first touch and close control and **** all else. these abilities alone have given him his name as a bright young hope, or whatever, whereas in reality he doesn't seem to have what it takes to be a top winger that can skin a full back and whip in a cross. gilesy can be a bit old fashioned about tactics (which he hates as a whole) but he's rarely wrong about a player. therefore pennant is bollox. q.e.d.

I'd take 1.5 million for him right now.

If Pennant's instructions were to cut inside and lose the ball, run headfirst into Middlesbrough players and lose the ball, overhit and underhit all crosses, and dander about like a ####, then he had a brilliant game.

Lets stop making JP a scapegoat lads, i haven't been impressed
with him either but you can't just blame one player for our poor performances.

The guy looks completly out of his depth.

The transfer fee doesn't help but of course, he had nothing to do with that.

He needs to be taken out of the first team asap before any confidence he has is shot to bits (unless it is Bellamy that is doing the shooting that is!)
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

I was at the match yesterday and Pennant took a load of flack from the fans. That said he had an absolute stinker and while i'm generally positive and optimistic, although not on Tompkins levels, I can't honestly say I expect him to get better. In his defense though it was a weak team performance.

This time next year he will be at West Ham or Wigan. If some one slips him a fiver Fat Sam might take him for 5mil.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.
