They will go into the Tribunal with an approximate idea what they will pay based on all the relevant criteria and information. The deal with Ings would have been concluded with that in mind

Just reading the rules etc.. I think its going to be a big fee (assuming the Spurs bid is true). Even without Spurs bidding I think it would be circa £5-6 million minimum

We can counter the impact of increased tribunal fee due to the Spurs bid by showing the tribunal this video

Hmm, slight catch with that i think you'll find, probably already legally bound to do so once the tribunal sets a value, you know what we're like when it comes to placing carts and cart horses in the correct order.

Is it that wide open to abuse, I dont think it is

Firstly lets look at the Ings case and take into account the rumours

Liverpool know his contract is expiring and bid £5 million to get it sorted prior to tribunal, this is knocked back

Spurs bid £12 million again hoping to get something tied up before the expiry, Burnley accept but player knocks them back

Liverpool will now negotiate with the player, they will be aware of what Spurs have bid and will roughly be able to guess the amount they will have to pay out

I would imagine once an application for tribunal has been submitted then all subsequent bids become irrelevant

I suspect Liverpool are fully aware of the amount they will end up paying or at the very least will have a ball-park figure (£8-9 million)
I think it's open to abuse because any club can bid knowing a player is going elsewhere but that their bid will effect the price another; maybe a rival club pays, and for a player the price raising bidder know they'll never sign, or be able to sign legally due to a tribunal being under way.

What's to stop a side bidding 15mill two days before a tribunal, and if; as has been mooted; these bids have an effect on the price the trubunal set, then i think that can be abused.

Maybe i'm not getting it right, and probably it doesn't happen often, but it does seem like it's a path a mischievous club could take, and with no fear of any repercussions, except maybe starting a tit for tat fake bidding war between the clubs involved for the forseeable..
