            The way I believe it works is if we want him out & he's on say 120k pw & he signs for someone who pays him 100k pw we pay the additional 20k pw for the remainder of his contract with us. Or am I wrong?

              We wouldn’t have to pay the £20k, it would be LFC’s call. If Palace dig their heels in and say they will only pay £100K (only he says! ) and if CB says he won’t play for less than £120K, then LFC will have a decision to make.

              CB may be happy to drop £20K and accept £100K from Palace knowing he will be first choice etc. and that will be good for his International position and the endorsements that will bring!

              Palace will of course be fully aware where CB is in the LFC Striker pecking order and they will know what he is being paid and possibly who else is in for him I guess so they will, understandably, negotiate accordingly. They of course have to still carefully balance that they are an EPL team and to keep that status, they need to be buying good players.
              FWIW, my gut feel says you don’t keep £30M +/- valued players when they are 5th choice and you are only in domestic contest for the season.
              Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but does not actually get you anywhere.

                    No, I don’t think it does make sense in this case. Only if we were binning him off for any reason, possibly like Balotelli, would you have to pay out his contract.

                              You would never have to pay up a full contract anyway. The club and player would come to a mutual agreement
