The thing that impressed me yesterday was how he recovered from a couple of mistakes. Absolutely did not faze him and he was excellent after them.

Great for 89 minutes, switches off for one. That one minute usually costs us, or should cost us like Moura on Saturday. Against Lanzini it did cost us a goal last season. A few more examples I don't want to dwell on but just using these to inform you.Originally posted by Norbs View PostEh?

Good point......if and when his mistake costs us points, then it will be good to see how he reacts to that.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostThe thing that impressed me yesterday was how he recovered from a couple of mistakes. Our back 4 has been brilliant so far this season........up against Mbappe and Neymar will be some test

You made it sound like he's 27 and plays 30 games a year thoughOriginally posted by BigChief View PostGreat for 89 minutes, switches off for one. The anti Lovren - he seems to lose his rag when he makes a mistake and get worse. The same fixture last year being a prime example.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostThe thing that impressed me yesterday was how he recovered from a couple of mistakes. It’s his spot to lose now and if he continues at this level then he’ll play the full season. My only worry is if we need to manage his minutes - he had a very bad injury and a few smaller ones so his game time has been limited the last two years. We’ll see how his body reacts to playing all the games.

I wouldnt have had Gomez as a starter in the middle, not for a few years and a lot more experience. Got to say I was wrong, and how much I have been impressed with his all round game.
I think it really helps having VVD along side, coaching him a bit... but also a settled back 5. I dont think you can overstate the importance of partnerships. VvD and Gomez look "right" together, more than Lovren and VvD imho.
It is great that back line is so young. This goes against everything I believe, but Klopp has got it bang on, even if Gomez was forced on him due to injury. He judged him ready and Gomez has stepped up. He will probably **** up from time to time, but I dont get the feeling of panic running through the team when he faces a bit of pressure. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

General consensus was that Klopp was prepared to play him there at 19 when he first arrived, but Gomez got injured.Originally posted by Charly View PostI wouldnt have had Gomez as a starter in the middle, not for a few years and a lot more experience. Gomez was highly rated by the youth team and I couldn't quite see why. I was dubious when he played full-back as the old diagonal over the top seem to split his kipper. This season he's bloomed like a mother****er and I'm happy as larry. He'll make a ricket now and then but overall he looks like he's stepped up and will be stood there with VVD making our defence as tight as a duck's arse. And that's watertight.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

Only 21 as well, his potential is massive.
Put it this way, when big Virgil was 21 he was still playing for Groningen.
Joe seems to have a real ‘**** you’ Attitude to his opponents this season. His game has moved on mentally where he just looks more assured.
In an exciting season with loads of new signing his development has been a real treat.Modifying post.

Yesterday was his worst game so far, and thats only because he made those 2 mistakes. Hes done well in all the other gamesOriginally posted by rudedog View PostHe made 2 mistakes I can remember yesterday, the sloppy pass early on which VVD made a good recovery and then later he got too tight to Moura who turned him and led to one of their best chances. Hes still young and learning so we can forgive him the odd lapse (as long as he's not repeating the same errors). Apart from those blips, I thought he was great and seems to be a really good partner for VVD.
He does seem to have gained some extra zip this season (has he's lost some bulk?). There were a couple of times I thought Moura was through but big Joe just turned on the afterburners - what a tackle this was
Joe Gomez's game by numbers vs. Spurs:
80% pass accuracy
44 touches
4 aerial duels won
3 tackles won
3 clearances
0 fouls
One thing that helps him is his pace, it can get him out of jail at timesBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
