I think we can all agree that letting Clyne go in January was a pretty stupid decision, I am still annoyed about it to be honest. Typical that the week after we let him go with have a defensive injury crisis & the defence has gone to ****.

As regards Gomez, cruciate, ankle surgery & fractured leg & he's only 21 ffs!!! Not good reading that, poor fella has had a nightmare. We probably do need to go into the market for a mainstay beside VVD.

It's amazing that in this day and age there is no simulation programme that predicts the reliability of a player's fitness. Or managers don't want to use it enough, or their own eyes and brain. I guess that's what makes football palatable still, everyone still uses their heart to judge small things.

Obviously the calculations wouldn't always be accurate but it would tell you things like a truck could run over Suarez's legs and he would bounce straight back up, therefore a replacement is less urgent for him. Whereas, a change of wind direction in far East Asia could result in a 4 month lay off for Sturridge or Gomez.

I fear we will see Ox in the same category when he 'comes back'.

Are people forgetting that Gomezs injury was a fracture and not any inherent fleshy weakness?

          brittle bones...

I thought it was silly selling Clyne during a title run in.

VVD is the player we just cannot replace... Matip /Lovren at the back terrifies me.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

I am just hoping that both of them stay/are fit for the Bayern game as VVD is suspended for that game.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Joe Gomez to undergo surgery on his fractured leg...

Liverpool can confirm Joe Gomez is to undergo surgery to assist his recovery from a lower leg fracture sustained at Burnley on December 5.

The defender has been undergoing a rehabilitation programme since suffering the initial break at Turf Moor; however, after further diagnosis, the club’s medical staff believe he will benefit from a further procedure to enable a more complete recovery.

No timescale will be placed on an expected return date for Gomez, though it’s likely he will feature again this season.

Reflecting on the news, Jürgen Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “It’s a blow for the boy and for us - because prior to the injury he was in such fantastic shape.

“But he is too valuable to take any risk with, both for our present and future, so we get this procedure done and he comes back when he’s ready.

“His attitude during this rehab has been outstanding but it just hasn’t healed as we’d have liked so we will make this intervention and then he will come back.”

Gomez had made 18 appearances so far this season prior to sustaining the injury in December.

The 21-year-old added: “Obviously being out for longer than we’d first hoped for is hard to swallow but it’s part and parcel of the industry. It was an injury caused by an impact, like nearly all the injuries I’ve had in my career, so I know it’s just a case of when it’s fully healed I’m good to go again.

“The hardest part is not being able to help the team and contribute on the pitch at the moment, so it’s important I come back ready to go and this procedure will help with that. My only focus is getting back for Liverpool as soon as possible and I can promise the supporters I’ll be working hard every day to do that.”

Sickening, although we've defended well without him we still miss him, he allows us to push up a bit higher and his ridiculous recovery pace had already helped us out on quite a few occasions. Very annoying.

Although I'm more bothered about the league we are one more injury from being an absolute mess at the back v Bayern, the first leg is already our reserve centre backs!

No doubt we miss him. We haven't been defending that well since Christmas. Only 7 goals conceded in the first 19 games, and now we've conceded that many in the last 5.

                          Looks like I mis-read it

Better news than I though but it still suggests he will be out for a while.

FFS, I think we should play Ki-Jana at right back against West Ham. We need that kid up to speed fast IMO.
                            * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I think playing him in a big game when we're chasing for the title is putting way too much pressure on him too soon.

I doubt he'll play again for us this season.

Didn't expect to see Gomez this season to be honest and maybe best if he writes this one off and concentrates on getting better, long career ahead of him but yeah we have been so much better with him beside Virgil.

I think the constant chopping and changing is a big reason why the defence has looked shakey of late, that and more pressure obviously. Trent out has thrown a spanner in teh works, i'm really hoping he is back fit soon as the balance has looked way off without him.
