as you mentioned, its not such a bad thing.
i much prefer the early cross so the attacker can run onto the ball and in front of the defenders and causing panic at the opposition goal mouth rather than the defenders already having a chance to get back while the wide player pisses about going inside, then outside, then stops, have a bifter, then goes again...

If Toure was one Liverpool to emerge with credit in Basel, then Liverpool’s right back was surely another.

Nathaniel Clyne is not a man who grabs headlines. He’s not a man for big speeches or powerful rallying cries.

What he has turned out to be, though, is a very shrewd signing. He finishes his first season with most appearances by any outfield player at the club (52), and as £12.5m well spent in this column’s opinion.

“Sign a f***ing left back,” was the Tweet (later deleted) from Jamie Carragher on Wednesday night. It resonated with Liverpudlians, who harbour serious and understandable doubts about Alberto Moreno’s long-term capabilities in a Red shirt.

Not so with Clyne. In a season of inconsistency, he has been one of the few steady-eddies, his performance levels rarely dipping – a first-half nightmare against Anthony Martial at Old Trafford stands out only because it was so rare.

As Liverpool plan for the summer, thoughts immediately turn towards which players will be coming into the club. Depending on who you speak to, the Reds require a goalkeeper, left back, centre back, centre midfielder, winger and striker.

Not a right back, though. That position looks sorted for a few years yet.

Feels like he's been here longer than 1 season though

Clyne was one of the few that had a good game. Another player that has improved under Klopp. IMO he initially struggled with being asked to get up and down so much in Klopp's system but he has grown into that role asked of him. If his delivery can improve and he starts racking up some assists he could prove a really fantastic asset to us.

he is one of the few that will very rarely let their performance be called into question.

Leicester have shown you dont need a team of £50m players but you also have to have no weak links. we have a few weak links and a few others who are not consistent enough.
too many players who lose concentration and drop a bollock or two.

not clyne though. he has been consistent without being a superstar.

Really does remind me of Steve Finnan.

Yeah Clyne seems a very level headed fullback. Solid without being spectacular. Nice to have a player that has a bit of consistency.

He lost his man for their second goal though.

Personally I think he needs to speed up his passing and control and be braver with his passing.

He didn't lose his man at all, he didn't get the tackle in but it was our Can & lovren that caused that. Watch it again, Can strolling back and Lovren diving in and getting nutmegged. Coke was lucky the ball ran to him.

But no doubts he can improved on his game. Not worried about him anywhere near as much as the rest of the defence.

Hugely overrated player. Hope Gomez puts him under pressure and gets that slot

Crazy talk. If anything he's vastly underrated.

And even if you thought Clyne was that useless, citing Gomez as a more able right back after seven games is equally crazy.

I like Clyne at right back or left back. Very strong, quick recovery, loads of stamina and good positionally.

If he can add some assists then we're rocking. Some of the cross into the box recently have been fantastic and should have led to a few goals.

Clyne is dependable and solid week in week out,not like the tool on the other side. He's not a world beater but he's by far the least of our problems.

Especially since he's only played left back for us

Gomez is an interesting one, I wonder if Klopp might use him to fill one of our centre back gaps or continue to use him as a full back.

Flanno too, who it seems Klopp doesn't rate.

I'd assumed Flanagan was on a Sturridge type recovery program after being out so long he was just unfortunate to be coming back at the end of the season. I could be wrong of course.

It'll be interesting to see what Klopp does with the defence as a whole to be honest as a few players seem likely to be leave (Toure, Skrtel, Ilori) while Flanagan and Gomez have been out for so long and Wisdom has been out on loan, so the manager hasn't seen much of them, plus there is the Sakho situation which is currently unresolved. Plus no-one seems to rate Moreno as a fullback. So there are likely to be alot of changes made in this area over the summer.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
