This would be my ideal team against Arsenal.

Assuming Henderson is injured, Can takes his place. Lucas allows Can and Milner to compress the play and power through to Coutinho supplying balls to Benteke and Ings, who will have a lot of movement and link up play with Benteke.

    -------------Mignolet
    Clyne--Skrtel--Sakho--Moreno
    --------------Lucas
    ------Can---Coutinho----Milner
    ----------Ings
    ----------------Benteke

I fear that teams with better players will expose Lovren all day long, the midfield is still easy to get through and although Gomez has tightened that side a little there are still gaps to be easily exploited with the right quality of player
How many times did they waltz past Lovren tho...I recall once where he got done, but recovered to make a sliding block? How many others were there? I must admit to watching the game late last night, so tiredness may have set in, but I don't recall Lovren getting bypassed that many times?

At least half a dozen first half

Did not like Ibe on the Left ... on the right sure .. on the left he is not the same player ..
Last 20 mins he was excellent & was the right decision by Rodgers to take Ibe off instead of him. But he really needs to start contributing to goals and assists.

Just at the point when everyone was thinking "how on earth is he still on the pitch", he actually started to play well and had a good last 20 as you say. Before that he was hopeless. Lots of little tricks on the ball that achieved nothing.

Coincided with him moving further in and upfield and Bournemouth tiring, I suspect. If he plays, it needs to be in the coutinho role behind the front man, not as part of the midfield trio.

I guess its official, Lallana is a drifter. The bum. He drifts in and (mostly) out of games far too often. If you can't take charge against a team like Bournemouth then I wouldn't really trust him to turn up against bigger clubs.

From being top of the picks in pre-season, he's suddenly demoted himself to the bench. Must. Not. Play. against Arsenal or we're in trouble. I like the look of fosterbloke's inverted diamond team.

You don't need two floating creators, just play a 1-2 middle and set Hendo and Milner free to make alternate runs into the danger zone. That will also make Benteke more effective. ---

                        -----------Mignolet
Clyne--Skittles-Lovren--Gomez (I'd play Sakho but I doubt Rodgers will change for the sake of it)
                        -----------Lucas (or Can)
                        -------Hendo--Milner
                        ---------Coutinho
                        -------Benteke--Ings

Would be my team for Arsenal
                        Bit narrow that

I think in the couple of games we have had so far the side have looked relatively solid, the additions of Clyne and Gomez seem to lessen with effects of Lovren and Skrtel being dragged into and exposed in wide areas, while the hard work of Milner and Henderson seemingly offers some protection. It is further up the pitch that we are having problems. If as I think may be the case for the early part of the season at least we are trying to keep things fairly solid with the back 4 and Henderson and Milner providing some protection, we are then very reliant on the other 4 players (Coutinho, Ibe, Lallana and Benteke) to provide the 'spark' that our attacking play needs to win games. For me at the moment that unit isn't working, with Ibe and Lallana struggling. The stats suggest that Lallana is working hard but that isn't going to earn him much credit if he offers little going forward as that primarily must be his role. Ibe is a more difficult one because he is young and somewhat raw and will take time to develop, he is showing some positive signs but isn't going to be consistent at this stage of his career. I think that we can accept this if the player on the opposite side is playing well but at the moment that isn't the case, so in my mind that leaves us with a decision to make.

Given that the next game is Arsenal away I would probably look to bring in one of Moreno or Ings for one of Lallana or Ibe. - I would go with Moreno or Ings because they have experience of the league, Arsenal away is probably not the place to give Firmino or Origi their first start, and Markovic seems way down the pecking order.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think both were very good decisions and applaud the referee for having the mental strength to make them so quickly.

Elphick clearly had his hands on Lovren's shoulders. When you do that in the box you run the risk of getting called against. That offence is not called enough, but that doesn't make it any less illegal.

The new offside rule will be a headline maker all season. It comes down to whether the ref felt Coutinho's actions affected the opponent. Rightly, he decided they didn't and let the goal stand.

                            Well done Mr. Pawson.

I think its offside if you read this explanation on Sky from last week
