    yet more takeover stuff

    Liverpool takeover 'imminent'
    Written by Ian O'flaherty
    Sunday, 19 November 2006

Next Thursday could be a red letter day in the history of Liverpool FC.

No fewer than three prospective buyers are due to meet with the board with views to purchasing the club.

The three candidates are John Miskelly, a property millionaire from Belfast, US billionaire George Gillet and Dubai International Capital.

Reports have suggested that JPMorgan is the group advising DIC on how to approach any possible takeover, whilst NM Rothschild are the advisers to Mr Gillet.

Neither banks are strangers to the world of football: Rothschild are the group that advised Malcolm Glazer on his takeover of Manchester United, whereas JPMorgan provided the funds for the actual deal.

For the club's part, they are being advised by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Gillet's offer is rumoured to be around the £250m mark which will consist of £150m for the club's shares and he will also take over the club's debts which are thought to be around £100m. As well as this, he will also contribute towards the building of the new stadium.

Part of Gillet's money for the deal will be raised from loans, but it is expected that he will not secure these loans on LFC's assets ie: the ground, future revenue, etc.

All Liverpool fans will be aware that this is not the first time a possible takeover has been suggested, but potential deals in the last few years have failed to materialise.

A possible reason for the lack of investment so far may have been Liverpool chairman David Moores' asking price. Moores has valued the club at £300m, a figure which has put potential investors off investing in the club.

he is an Arsenal season ticket holder for one
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

          John Miskelly

John Miskelly was born in County Down, Northern Ireland, and now lives for 3 months in London and the remainder of the year in Gran Canaria.

He founded a company in 1981 JM Management Services Ltd which after many years is still delivering quality permanent and contract professionals to the IT departments of Blue Chip Financial Services organisations. JM is the largest IT recruitment business in the City of London. He is now a non-executive director of the firm. Miskelly also is Chairman of Sound Limited (formerly Sound Republic) which is a nightclub based in Leicester Square in London. Sound is one of the largest nightclubs in the West End of London and can cater for upto 1300.

John is involved in a number of charitable and public organisations. He has been involved with Stonewall, the gay and lesbian lobbying group, since the early 90s, becoming Deputy Chair in 1995 and subsequently Chair in 1998. He was Deputy Chair of Co-operation Ireland, a non-political and non-sectarian charity formed in 1979. The charity works on practical and long-term projects in both the north and south of Ireland. It brings both communities closer together and creates an environment where mutual understanding and respect can be affected. Together with Barry Douglas, John founded Camerata Ireland in 1999, the first all-Ireland chamber orchestra.

He has a wide range of sporting interests including golf (handicap 8) and is an Arsenal Season Ticker Holder. He also enjoys cooking, opera, ballet and theatre. He is a member of Islington South & Finsbury Labour Party.

A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

He was linked ages ago. He sponsors / finances / owns a local club in NI. One particular SCM member used to play for him.

He doesn't have the funds for a full takeover though. He's believed to be worth about £70m I think.

He must be part of a consortium then.

It was never mentioned at the time, neither were his intentions.

I'd be very surprised if he was involved in a complete takeover.

Minimum inestment is exactly what we don't need. What we need is a potential buyer to take full control and pump some real funds in to the team and the stadium. If we get an investor rather than a takeover we'll be right back where we are now in 5 years time you only have to look at what's happened with the Granada money to see that.
