not just the lack of goals tho - this side is guaranteed to concede - throw the ball into the box and see what happens.

The 2013-14 side conceded **** loads of goals too, but they were capable of scoring 4 or 5 goals on most days. I think with a decent attack the goals we concede wouldn't be too much of a problem. But watching the side recently I get the feeling that as long as the game is 0-0 the side think that they can nick a goal and get the win, but as soon as we concede they know that they aren't capable of getting 2 goals and this is more or less game over.

We have failed to score in 6 out of 24 PL games and 10 times we have only scored 1 goal, so in two thirds of our games we have scored 1 goal or less. Goals win games and you won't win many games with a record like that.

I have always thought as a guideline you have to 'expect' to concede a goal in most games, therefore in order to win you have to score at least 2 goals. If you don't score 2 and fail to win you look at your attack, if we do score two and don't win then you look at your defence. Based on this metric there are very few games that it has been the defending that has cost us.

I'd hazard a guess that not having a 'proper' pre-season for a few years now hasn't helped in that regard.

Flying around the world when they should be in the toughest part of training has to take it's toll eventually
