Kevin Stewart is 4 months older than Emre Can.
Once gets praised for working hard the other criticised for not being consistent when he is playing game in game out, week in week out.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

To be fair, the few Can critics are the ones who think Martin Skrtel is the best centre half in the league so I wouldn't worry. It'd actually be more worrying if these people rated Can!!

i thought he looked really good last night. He broke up play well, covered plenty of ground and won lots of tackles. He keeps it really simple which is something the rest of our midfielders refuse to do. Stewart, flano and smith were again excellent.

His passing range might be limited but its the only thing that is as the rest of his game is pretty good. when you have coutinho and firmino in the first team he doesnt have to be anything other than steady. West ham didnt really counter us all night and that in part was down to this lad holding his position well. Again its something none of our current crop of midfielders seem to do well.

really promising for his 5th or 6th game in the middle and more importantly he is getting better every time i see him.

I was impressed too, he was everywhere. We don't need him to be able to pick a raking pass although it'd be nice, he was playing DM and played it well. Win the ball, give it to someone who can do something with it. Job done.

Has played himself into contention for a starting place in DM. Maybe him, Allen and Can as the midfield three.

Anything but Lucas, Henderson and Can for the moment.

We need a whole new midfield.
Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon

I think we overcomplicate what we want from players these days. We want everybody to be able to do everything. I'd settle for my defenders being solid defenders and not having to have an attacking passing ability, certainly at CB, I'd settle for having a defensive midfielder who can spot danger and snuff it out with good tackling and reading of the game, central midfield being able to get about the pitch with good tackling and passing. Attacking midfield being able to score and create goals and a striker with good movement who can bang the ball in the net with monotonous regularity.

Stewart is from that ilk, he reads the game well, was strong in the tackle and kept things simple when he had it. Not saying he's a world beater but he did better against them in both games than any of our first choice midfield managed in two league games.

If we get the 3rd goal v Villa early in the 2nd half I'd like to see him get 20 min or so with Can or Hendo making way.

It's nice when you can give a kid his Prem debut when the games effectively over. Well pleased for him.

Even recently I was convinced he'd never play in the League for us... Well done, keep it up.
