    Liverpool on the Internet

    Chaps, can anyone shed any light on how much data is used to stream a live Liverpool game to mobile phone or tablet (2 gig, 5 gig??) I appreciate there would be a difference in usage v quality ie HD v SD etc etc.

    I'm going to away from a tv for the dortmund games so I'm trying to figure out a way to view

    If you take a piece of string, measure it, multiply by 4, that will be the data used per 17 seconds of streaming.

      4mbps seems to be the figure I keep hearing for HD quality streaming. Any SD stream could range from 200k to 900ish?

      Sure you can find an online calc to do the math.

      Not sure how accurate this info is though

        It would vary ridiculously wide depending on the source.

        As an example here are the numbers quoted by Netlifx;
        Low (0.3 GB per hour)
        Medium (SD: 0.7 GB per hour)
        High (Best video quality, up to 3 GB per hour for HD and 7 GB per hour for Ultra HD)

        So anywhere between 0.3 and 7.0 GB per hour. And that's just Netflix, I'm sure other sources would have other qualities and codecs giving them their own numbers.

            If so we estimate around 15MB for every 3 minutes of streaming so for a 90 minute match you are probably looking at about 450MB.

            it varies on iOS but over 3G we suggest 180-1400Kbps depending on content/device. 1400Kbps is somthing like 31MB for 3 minutes or 930MB for 90 minutes. I'm not sure if the 1400Kbps bitrate is available on iPhone and iPad or only on iPad given that it has a larger screen size. On Wi-Fi we recommend a minimum 2Mbps for iOS.
