What did you all make of Villarreal at the end of the game? I must admit, I was a little annoyed at the way they were celebrating, but then again, it was a late goal against us.

I think they were celebrating a game plan that finally worked to be honest, as annoying as it was. I don't really buy the line that they aren't very good - they clearly have enough technical ability and nous to dominate a game, they just chose to make sure they didn't concede an away goal.

We'd have reacted the same way and have in games this season.

i thought it was a bit over the top. If it had been the second leg then fair enough, but as Klopp has said, it's not over yet.

Anfield should be rocking next week.

But you know what, if Klopp manages to get to the final then he will still have a hell of a job on his hands winning the trophy without Origi, Emre Can, Sakho, Henderson....... if he does manage to win the europa league, then he is a ****in genius. Of Istanbul 2005 proportions.

Either way, I am very optimistic for next season.

I am not going to criticise Klopp for starting Firmino even though I would have preferred Sturridge to have started. Frimino playing as a false number 9 has worked well in the past so I could see the benefits of playing this system again away from home in a European tie. However, no one is going to convince me that deciding against bringing Sturridge on in the last 15 minutes (especially with their best defender going off injured) was a good idea. It was pure madness in my book. Villarreal were clearly there for the taking. People can dress it up how they want but in my opinion we showed them too much respect. Play for a 0-0 draw and you're likely to be sucker punched and that is exactly what happened.

I think we will win next week 2-1 but go out on away goals. Obviously I hope I am wrong.

Joe Allen really should have done better with that chance, we would have won by a few goals if he put that away. Fine line to success

A few observations which keep cropping up from everyone:
                * Should have put Sturridge on with 20mins to go
                * No point whatsoever in bringing Benteke on in the 90th min
                * Moreno again was garbage - no composure when through and went missing for their goal
                * Mig with a very fine save but still a bit wobbly with the ball at his feet
                * Ibe was completely ineffective when he came on, lost possession cheaply for their goal
                * Klopp's system/approach was poor, should have been more aggressive to get the away goal when they were giving us so much space on the wings

Still feels like we have enough to overturn it in the second leg at home - crowd going nuts behind us will be another amazing night. Could have/should have made it easier for ourselves with an away win but... like we always say... we never...ever... do things the easy way.

Prediction: no fingernails by half-time next Thursday!

I thought Allen was superb yesterday evening and it was quite interesting to see Coutinho dropping deeper with Allen pushing up alongside Firmino in places. He seems to have shaken off Gerrard's barb about passing sideways and is playing with a little freedom and a new sense of vigour. I initially thought he was trying to impress potential suitors, but I actually now reckon he's trying to impress Klopp.

He's more than adequate as a squaddie.

No issue with the team that started but still can't believe Sturridge didn't get any playing time.

We need to score early next week and we'll probably have to score 3. A 2 goal lead and they'll know they only need one so will still be at us, you wouldn't back us not to give them a **** goal. Score early, score a few and crush their spirit before they get going.

haven't seen a replay of their goal yet, but yesterday i thought that kolo should have pushed up and played the offside trap instead of trying to catch their striker.

moreno deserves some credit imo, had a good game and can't really fault him for shooting as he sprinted 3/4 of the pitch with two defenders on his back. it was costly in the end but i can't really fault him.

                        ibe less said the better.

allen and lucas were superb imo. we controled the game for 91mins, but lack of concentration cost us yet again. desperately need a few experienced leaders in this team.

we'll stuff them in the 2nd leg, they're not as good as i expected them to be.

                          It's a good observation and I think you're right.

I hope so but this is exactly why so many supporters are stunned we didn't change the approach mid game and try stuff them in the first leg!
