We're only 4 points worse off

I'm sick of seeing all this doom and gloom and how **** we are business, so after a quick look, we are only 4 points worse off than in identical fixtures compared to last season.

We've dropped 3 points v Everton, 1 point v Bolton and 2 points v Blackburn, however if you switch Birmingham at Home from last season for Reading at home this season, then we gain 2 points, and takes our losses down to 4 points.

A win against anyone we lost to at home last season, or two wins in place of 2 draws, providing we can sort our away form out to last seasons standard, will put us exactly were we were last season.

So it's not totally unrealistic, to think we're going to make at least top three/four, lets see how we go in the run up to christmas, eh before all the doom and gloom. Because we haven't really done anything unexpected, appart from maybe the loss to Everton. And the manners of some of the defeats have been hard to take, but I contribute that partly to the run we've had, I;ve a feeling we're due an upturn in our fortunes .

Yep, it's great being 10th in the table.

Because of course we're going maintain this exact form through the rest of the season aren't we, you really are an odd one aren't you.

The only thing is we were gutted this time last season too, and we're worse off at a time when we are supposed to be far better off! I appreciate the idea, but the truth is we should've been in the title race this season and the chances we will ever be considered contenders this season are very slim. It's easier to get players performing when the incentive is to win silverware but I suspect the vast majority of our players will not now view the Premiership as something we are in to win this season.

I know we will improve our form considerably and show that we are amongst the best, make it to a CL spot etc but the fact is we had good reason to expect more than that this season and instead we have been atrocious.

I'll admit I expected us to be closer by this point, but I never thought we stood a credible chance of winning it this season, so I thought we would still be off the pace. But the fixtures have really not been kind, in the way that they don't give a fair reflection of how our season might pan out.

3rd is easilly still do-able, anything after that would be amazing, so lets hope we can achieve parity at least psotion wise with last season.

thats right and the season ends in November, and therefore, its impossible that we can climb higher.

Its a good thing liverpool fans are patient. can you imagine the reception Gonzales, pennant etc would have got if we werent???

some players still think 'lets do this for the fans' but these days, they must be thinking why bother? the fans don't really care. One bad game/day and its all over.

We may be 'only' 4 points worse off than last season but this is after spending close to 30 million quid since last January on Pennant, Gonzalez, Bellamy, Kuyt, Palleta and Agger. We are also playing some of the worst footie I have seen us play in recent years. We also look like we've lost any fight that we used to have. Apart from that it doesn't look to bad

To be fair though, Agger and Kuyt make up about $15m of that and they look to be good buys who were worth the money. Paletta and Agger are both Aouth American prospects who didn't cost that much, really Bellamy, Pennant and Aurelio are the ones with the big question marks over.... and all of who should really only be squad players when/if our regular first teamers start performing.

We've seen enough of Gerrard, Carra, Alonso etc to know that they are far better than the way they have been performing so far this year, and I'm prepared to believe they'll come good at some point this season. 4th, maybe 3rd, is still perfectly achievable, and although thats not what we wanted from this season it isn't yet quite as gloomy as many here are making out
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                        Mine angry and defrauded young?

I see what you're getting at and I would like to add that it seems that more than ever that teams are playing for a point at home against us than ever before, so many games have been seen as so negative and yet we have created far more chances than the opposition on their grounds. Take Middlesborough for example 11 shots to 1 , breaking down the massed defences is not easy but it'll come soon. I know the top two don't seem to have the same problem but look at the Arse at the moment thier beginning to find this as well. Sooner than later the chances will start turning into goals again and confidence will rise and so will our hopes.

TBH mate, there hasnt been much visible evidence in their performances, to suggest that they DO care.

Things have to improve fast. Hopefully two home games in a row can help gain some confidence.
