When you're looking at the transfer fees being paid in the PL at the moment, many clubs are willing to risk giving a youngsters a relatively high salery rather than wait and see because it's so ridicously expensive to sign anyone. Just look at the Ings fee for a 'free' transfer within the PL. Signing a youngster on a 10k contract for 3 years is still a far cheaper investment than wating and see.Originally posted by Muddled View PostHas £10,000 a week really become the 'going rate' for an unproven youngster in the Premier League?
It's just the general price development coming from ridiculous money available for PL sides these days. Puts pressure all the way down the system - and impressively the English sites manages to get squads that are no better than their Spanish and German counterparts

That's what the report states, how much is a starter in the Championship paid? I'd guess not much lower than 10,000Originally posted by Muddled View PostHas £10,000 a week really become the 'going rate' for an unproven youngster in the Premier League?* The above is posted in my opinion. This is in the Independent.
But Canos’ current Liverpool contract has just one year left to run and the two parties are currently some way apart on terms for a new deal. Liverpool have so far offered him a new deal on £3,000 per week, which is one third of what he could hope to command if he left. Liverpool are currently trying to keep their wage bill down for young players, an approach that cost them Jordan Rossiter, who agreed a move to Rangers last week. This new club policy could see Canos leave as well.

99% of the youngsters wont make it into a regular first team player- if their wage demands are excessive, let them go. Rossiter learned the hard way- fair play to the club for not paying somebody with less than 10 minutes premier league experience £10,000 per week.
Ten grand per week

I remember when Robbie Keane broke through at Wolves in League Division One as it was called back then and he got 4,000 in his first contract extension, a year later he pissed off to Coventry for 10,000! I dunno why that has stuck in my mind.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostThat's what the report states, how much is a starter in the Championship paid? I'd guess not much lower than 10,000
