At least he seems to have something about him

When we signed Mig it was a case of 'who'? Meh
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

But is he good enough to be our new main keeper? dont remember him being tipped with the Horns, and Ter Stegens

He's better than Mig for sure.

Mignolet made two errors in his final season at Sunderland and such a stat was spun to make out we had conducted some good business. I totally get it: I love the buzz of a new signing and contemplating what they can bring to the team, but this feels like an assessment has been made by statistics, value - and perhaps what Klopp has heard from his former team - and we've gone for a young 'keeper.

There may well be good reason why we've gone down this route and perhaps money is being set aside to address different areas of the team. I have seen zero minutes of Mainz's season so I have every hope he at least has the foundations to grow into an excellent 'keeper and we will reap the rewards.

The talk of Ter Stegen (regardless of how far-fetched they may seem) may have built my hopes up and such is the importance of an exceptional goalkeeper, I believe it's a position we can't scrimp on.

Surprised Weidenfeller isn't on that list although i watch no German football outside of Europe.

I am somehow warming to a German GK. There's been plenty of WC ones or thereabouts recently - hopefully this fella will develop into one. Perhaps needs to bulk up a bit but he's only what - 22 - shouldn't be a problem.

                        Booooo! Stone him!

He hasn't made the Germany squad for the euros though which is interesting for the supposed second best keeper over there. Time will tell.

Karius has two full seasons in the Bundesliga under his belt, and his stats are pretty good and he was only behind Leno and Neuer in the vote for the best goalkeeper. I have a good feeling about him to be honest, the price is a snip as well. We've got three players in for about 10 million now, excluding sign on fees.

Five young goalkeepers who'll soon be eyed by bigger clubs

                            24 February 2015

                            Loris Karius (21, Mainz)
Bundesliga battlers Mainz are still not out of the woods where relegation is concerned, but in 21-year-old Karius, Die Nullfünfer have one player who should help them stay up this season. Only seven teams have conceded fewer goals this season, with Karius having kept six clean sheets and often been the difference between his team winning points or coming away empty handed.

One of his best performances came away from home against Bayer Leverkusen. With his defence leaving him exposed, the young keeper put in a wonderful performance and earned his side a crucial point at the BayArena.
Karius looks extremely comfortable racing off his line to close down attackers. Always alert, he narrows the angle quicker than the forwards can react and snuffs out chances regularly.

Arsenal and Liverpool were linked with the player this winter, but Karius signed an extension to his current deal until 2018. Either way the former Manchester City youngster looks destined for a big future, and it’s easy to see why so many are monitoring his progress.

                            Loris Karius
More competition for Neuer, Loris Karius was a product of the Manchester City youth academy, but moved to Mainz 05 in 2011. After a decent spell in the B-team, he was promoted to the first-team in 2012 and is now the German side’s first-choice goalkeeper.
He’s kept seven clean sheets in 25 appearances this season, and is known for his excellent reflexes and shot-stopping ability.

I like the strengths section, if it means anything. Concentration as a weakness is a problem but it could be something you just add to a column because you've run out of things to say. Its certainly not something that can be 'practiced' or 'trained into a player'.

However, I'm excited if he can truly anticipate better than Mig. Loris makes some mistakes at Spurs rushing out too far but the fact he does, and the opposing forwards know this, makes life harder for them and gives the Spurs defenders some time to get back.
                              One tit for another.
