Mignolet's got his chance to cement his position as our No.1, knowing there's a more than adequate replacement to come in, who aren't Bogdanperkins or Jones. Any ****-ups, and I can see Klopp eyeing the Capital One Cup as his chance to put Karius into the team.

Irrelevant now as we'll never know. But I don't think you can use his lack of Olympic appearance as a barometer for whether he has the number one shirt. I would have thought he was told in no uncertain terms, we are signing you, forget the Rio jolly. We just handed mignolet a 5 year contract, he isn't going anywhere soon. In my opinion the new guy may have ended up as number one by the end of the season but no way was he starting the first game.

That seems like more than reasonable grounds to me.
