Or maybe he was kept last season to see if he could challenge Karius and Mignolet and he fell short, hence him being sold?
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

So in some ways it's understandable that he's getting more sympathy than others like Tanner, Piechnik, Konchesky etc.

Whilst the sympathy is understandable I don't think we should let sentiment be the leader of whether or not he's between the sticks. Klopp clearly hasn't.
I agree it was on a bigger stage but if you're going to call Mignolet generally **** then the same should apply to Karius. It's clear there is at best no difference between them.

They both caused our defense heart pulpitations. No confidence in either. I thought Mig was ****e in his first game. did not look comfortable catching the ball, slow to release, put defenders under pressure. He did improve, and was good at saving penaltiesI... but still not of the quality required in a serious title push. Hopefully we can get a decent fee. Karius needs a loan to build his confidence. I dont think having him on the bench will help his confidence should he suddenly be called into action because of injury to Alisson. That is why i would look for another backup keeper. Not sure Klopp will do that though.

if both Mig and Loris don't have a future at the club - and they don't considering that we have our new 67m superstar goalie - then if LFC don't get the price that they are valued at, it would make sense to send them both out on loan.

They both have long term contracts (I believe) and I think they could both do well at mid-table clubs. Some team like a Newcastle or a West Ham would still pay a lot for either of them if they demonstrated their value at a team like that for a season.

Ward is gone, and he was totally unproven at any sort of decent level despite being the same age as Karius. Always found it funny the guy being named as a genuine alternative despite having no top level experience of note.

Mignolet is Mignolet and I would rate him now as being a level below Karius.

Karius is under the microscope something rotten at the moment and we have the odd situation of people treating pre season friendlies like something that actually matters. But once the season starts and Alisson is in goals, then Karius can fade into the shadows and work on his game from the number two slot which would have less scrutiny.

For me the obvious answer is to see if we can keep Karius as our number two for the season, and then take it from there next summer. If he wants out then he can stick in a transfer request, but I still would not be getting rid unless we had a good keeper lined up to come in (and one that was arriving knowing he was going to be back up).

Getting a quality keeper is difficult as we have seen, and I would say that getting a good keeper to come just to be a back up would be just as difficult.

No point at all moving Karius on if it meant we ended up with a weaker number two keeper than if we kept Karius.
I don't see Karius as a quality keeper whatsoever. Mentally fragile before the whole final shenanigans imo. As someone said the guy probably doesn't see himself as a no.2. We bought Alisson for a world record fee as a long term purchase. Karius is finished at LFC imo. He himself, will want to be a starter every week and try put thus nightmare behind. The absolute worst thing he could do imo is accept thst he is a 2nd option Gk. His confidence is already on the floor. What good is playing a few ****ty league cup games a season going to do?

Unfortunately for him a lot of clubs will probably see him as much more of a risk than say 6 months ago ... so he may not have a choice. As I said it depends on the options available whether we would consider moving him on or loaning him out which I think is the best option for him to progress and for his stock to rise again.. which is good for us if we want to sell.

Offer him to Lyon as part of the Fekir deal.

maybe we could just keep karius and use him for spare parts.

use his knees for fekir for a start.

And that still brings us back to what I have been saying and it has nothing to do with trying to paint Karius as a quality keeper as what Isaid about him is that he would be a decent back up to have . If we move on Karius and Mignolet, we are left badly short of cover. We would be left with 19 yo Grabara as our back up should Alisson need a rest or get injured.

Grabara's competitive experience consists of pretty much under age games.

So we would be in a position of needing to bring in a new number two keeper and for that to make any sense it would need to be a keeper that is better than Karius or Mignolet.

So in my mind it would be stupid to move Karius and Mignolet on, unless we had a pretty good keeper already lined up to be the new number two. Which brings us back to the problem, how many keepers that are better than Karius or Mignolet would be happy to come and just be our number two?

Hence me saying I do not care about the whether or not Karis and/or Mignolet need to go elsewhere to rebuild their careers. What matter for us is that we have a back up keeper of a certain level, and if we do no have a new back up keeper of that level coming in, then we keep at least one of the two we have (Karius being better than Mignolet for me) until we are in a position to bring in that good back up keeper.

For me the Karius situation depends on a number of factors, our desire to have an experienced backup (which ties in to Mignolet's future) our desire to rebuild his confidence, our desire to maximise our return on him and what his thoughts are.

For me we want to have an experienced backup, at this stage I would prefer Mignolet to Karius because of the latter's lack of confidence. Karius needs games sitting on the bench isn't going to help, so that shouldn't really be an option. For the club's point of view his value has bottomed out it doesn't make sense to sell him until he builds his confidence (and hence value) which makes a loan move the sensible option. The down side to that is our options for backup are either Mignolet (who presumably we planned on selling this window) or bringing someone else in.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
