I assumed he was talking about Karius not giving up the #1 shirt, rather than you

Loris Karius' Besiktas transfer explained - including fee details and a Liverpool contract extension

Liverpool could bank £9.5million from goalkeeper Loris Karius' move to Besiktas.

The Reds have agreed an initial two-year loan with the Turkish outfit who will pay a loan fee of £2.25million.

Besiktas are obligated to buy the German shot-stopper for a further £7.25million in 2020 if certain performance criteria are met. These are related to appearances and Besiktas qualifying for Europe.

Liverpool will also have a 20% sell on clause if the deal becomes permanent.

Karius remains with Jurgen Klopp’s squad ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace but Simon Mignolet is expected to take his place on the bench at Selhurst Park.

If the deal is finalised then Karius will sign a one-year contract extension with Liverpool - with an option to extend for a second year if he returns to Anfield for the 2020/21 season. His current deal expires at the end of June 2021.

With no club willing to meet Liverpool's £12million asking price for Mignolet, they have decided to off-load Karius instead.

Klopp believes that Mignolet’s wealth of Premier League experience and his professionalism makes him the better candidate to be Alisson Becker's understudy this season.

Besiktas have been searching for a new keeper since selling Fabri to Fulham last month.

Initially they tried to take Mignolet on loan but Liverpool would only consider permanent offers for the Belgian.

Napoli were also interested in Mignolet but they were reluctant to offer the 30-year-old a long-term contract and pay the asking price. The Serie A outfit ended up signing David Ospina from Arsenal instead.

Besiktas turned their attention to Karius and the two clubs have now thrashed out an agreement.

Karius has endured a torrid time since his calamitous mistakes in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid back in May.

Klopp put that nightmare down to concussion after a blow to the head from Sergio Ramos but the former Mainz keeper also endured a terrible start to pre-season.

Liverpool responded by spending £65million on Alisson and rather than stay at Anfield as cover Karius will now seek to rebuild his career in Turkey.

This is what I think too tbh.

He's a better backup than a lot of teams have.

                      Couldn't agree more.

I want him to put the summer behind him and kick on.

There's a decent goalkeeper in there.
                      Oh I don't know.

Wait till we start building from the back in the cup games.

Karius would have been a better backup.

£9.5m is peanuts, we got more than that for Ward. I shows how far he's fallen
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                              we wont even get that.
they will stop playing him before they reach the appearance clause, unless he is brilliant, and then refuse to complete on the purchase.
