Wasn`t some of the squad unhappy with his internet antics over the summer as well?
That would probably deminish over time, but it could be some players are not to keen on him returning. I think the downsides he brings outweights the use we have for him as a back-up goalie.

My sympathy extends to an extent, but he clearly has the yips now, and some part of his subconscious questions what to do every time a ball comes near him.

Time to move him on to some lower league German team.

If he’d been clubbed over the head by a baseball bat the first mistake still wouldn’t of been excusable. The second one only doesn’t seem bad because the first one is soooo bad. He singly handedly gave Real Madrid the Chmpions Legue on a platter.
