With all this talk of Karius, i was thinking when was the last time we had a 'safe pair of hands' ......Probably Ray Clemence!

Brucey, Jerzy, Reina all had there moments .......But looking at the list below of our keepers since the 70's its a cluster**** of ****e in general.

Some serious ****e on that list. We need a main stay, clearly Mig isn't that & Karius has looked pretty horrendous thus far even if it is early days. What we wouldn't give for someone like Jan Oblak in our sticks.

Reina was great early days but tailed off towards the end.

He was immense at saving penalties until some who's name eludes me left the club. Was it Rafa's bald headed No2? Paco?

Most under rated keeper in the league until he went **** and every cunt did a told you so.

So we have had 1 great keeper who still had his moments and Reina who was great to start with but didnt maintain his early levels.....in 40 years not great is it?!!

Get in some young blood. David Watson is a sound lad from my school and a thoroughly decent coach.

He's also at Southhampton, guaranteed signing.

Do we ruin them i remember the hype behind the likes of James and Kirkland when we bought them ....Do we ruin great potential? or just buy them overhyped

Reina was plenty good enough, as was Grobbelaar.

Kirkland's the one I felt for most - he looked on track to being a top keeper until his serious knee injury. Mind you, you could argue that the way he threw himself into the danger area he was always liable to get injured sooner or later.

Brad Friedel is an odd one - he was inconsistent for us, but years later he developed into a top class keeper. Don't think we could ever have waited that long, but it could be argued he was the one that got away.

I think that - James started really well but our defence was ****e and he ended up under too much pressure at a young age.

Most premiership keepers are great until they are suddenly not - Dudek was great until he got the yips, same as Reina. Remember Bartez? Weird how they can go from fantastic to terrible in a short period of time. They seem to be much more reliant on mental resilience than other players.
