even though lovren was wrong sided and allowed the attacker an easy route to the ball it was piss poor from mig to stand mid goal and half expect the defender to win the challenge.
a goalie should cover the near side to where the cross is coming from as the attacker will often head back that side as it will be a more powerful header rather than a flick to the far side.
the more powerful header is surely the one to allow for as there is less reaction time. should it be a flick to the far side then there is a bit more reaction time.

You seem quite the expert on goalkeeper coaching. Do you have professional experience? You're saying Mig should pay no heed to Peter Crouch near the back post, presumably because the risk of crouch winning a header there is lower than Walters winning a header outside the near post and directing it on target. I'm interested to hear more.

if the ball was going to carry further to the back post then there is more reaction time, no!

its pretty obvious, stop the video on 28 seconds and look at the positions.
you can see walter stepping in front of lovren and thats the obvious threat.

A second before, before he steps in front of Lovren, the 10 foot beanpole at the back post was the obvious threat. The keeper covers his options until Lovren gets left flat footed. If it wasn't Peter Crouch, a player that will have been the focus of most the of the pre-match strategising, maybe Mig wouldn't have paid so much attention to his position, but it's pretty to easy to understand why he was worried the ball getting across to him. Reaction time or not, Crouch moving onto a cross towards the back post area is likely a goal.

It's poor from Mignolet but also Mane for the lazy effort at stopping the cross and Lovren allowing Walters get across him like that as well.

Also got to give Walters credit for the goal but it was poor effort all round for the goal

I found it a little bizarre the amount of **** Mig got after the game for letting in one goal while his opposite number let in four. No agenda there, none at all.

I dont think our post match analysis is too worried about stokes goalies poor performance or lack of defensive cover.
surely the 'agenda' is to paise our better players and also point out where we might have done better.

Migs been great the past couple of games... but... I thought he should be covering the near post better. That is what you normally hear the pundits banging on about.

That said, it was a bit poorly defended, and its not what I would call a goalkeeping ****up. Its good to see him back with a bit more confidence.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

There has been some improvement since he was dropped, like happened previously when he was dropped for Brad Jones, he has seeming come back more determined and with more confidence, hopefully he can maintain that level and not get complacent about his position again.

I don't blame him for the goal, for me it is poor defending from Lovren, most of the time Lovren is in the right position and clears that meaning Mignolet's position is fine for whatever happens next. He tries to get across to the near post when Lovren has made the mistake, but if he covers the near post from the start he is saying that he doesn't trust his defenders and is leaving the other side of the goal open for Crouch or whoever if the ball comes across.

Lovren was certainly at fault for letting his man get across him like that but Mig should have done better, his positioning for the goal was poor. He did well though apart from that and didn't go into his shell which was good to see.

The keeper position still seems to be an issue for us but since he's been back in the side he's done pretty well tbf

Was talking about the sky post match analysis, I found the cheerleading for Hart a weird.

Yeah I'd agree with that Hart wouldn't really be an upgrade but he's English and all that.

Hart was a good keeper up until a couple of years ago and since then his form has taken a dive and he has rightly been dropped and replaced by City. The fact that he is the England number one has seemingly stopped the pundits criticizing him and many seem almost outraged that City have replaced him, had it not been for this protection you would surely have seen similar criticism of his form to what Mignolet and Karius have received this season. I don't know how Hart is doing in Italy but based on his form over his last 2 years in the PL I don't seem him as an improvement on what we have.
