    Liverpool vs Swansea

I used to attend a couple of games a year before I had kids and because I turned 40 () over the Christmas period my brother booked flights + hotel for us to come over to the Swansea game this weekend I've managed to get tickets so it is all system go. I haven't been to a game since the QPR one a few years ago where Suarez scored in a 1-0 win so I'm looking forward this now.

Firstly where to eat and drink......as an older gentleman I like nice food - any decent places to eat? Gastro pubs....or the like? Pubs - any decent places that would be "too mad" () that anyone would recommend?

Not sure if anyone here will be around but more than happy to say hello to anyone going to the game.....

Get yourself some curry, rice and chips from the Lobster Pot. Or if you really want to spoil yourself head to the chippy in Gateacre village. Best curry, rice and chips ever!

Enjoy the game though mate. If you're staying in town there is a match bus and match taxi service that will get you the game for £2 a head. Right next to St Georges Hall.

I'll be there myself. Where are your seats?

Anfield Rd Lower - been there before, not the best seats in the world but they are inside the ground

Cheers for the bus tip btw.

The curry rice and chips will be the midnight snack I think - there is a Lobster Pot in the city close to me (Limerick) and it was a place you went to if you wanted to see/get into a fight....

That is gone close to 10 years now. Have been a few takeaways in it's building since it shut down.

Food there was nice though. They used to do a lovely garlic chip and cheese and their battered sausages were ace. Or at least they tasted ace to younger me with a skinful of cider in me as I came from Termites club (the version that was in the Savoy - Another building that is no longer with us).

And yeah was a spot to watch some late night fisticuffs once upon a time as the denizens of various clubs and pubs spilled into the night and headed there for grub.

The food in the Liverpool Lobster pot is quite similar to what you would have gotten years ago in the Limerick Lobster pot though. Perfect late night after a few scoops type food.

I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Yes I should have said "used to"be a chipper.....great batter sausages, that i do remember. I went to Termites a few times and then onto Strictly Rhythm when it changed from indy to dance

I'll seek it out - chips after a few beers can't be beaten.

Whatever you do, don't get sucked in to eating in Liverpool One - the restaurants have had bad problems with mice. They regularly appear in the lists of the most dirty restaurants in the city.

will do some research tomorrow-nice food, a few beers and curry chips to celebrate a resounding victory!

The Monroe on Duke Street is probably the original and best gastropub in Liverpool

Get yourself a good breakfast to set yourself up for the day. Moose Coffee on Dale St will be queue out the door busy but there is a reason for that. The food is great!!

For food in the afternoon / evening, to be honest, most of the best gastropubs in Liverpool will be outside the city centre...

My advice? Get back into town after the game and go for a Paddy 7 course meal - 6 pints of Guinness and a potato!! If you want a home from home, then there is a pub on Tithebarn Street called Shenanigans that is good.

If you would like a bit of a pub-crawl, then start at the Ship and Mitre on Dale Street for a real ale. Across the road there is a place called the Dead Crafty Beer Company that is good. You could either continue up Dale Street and hit Lady of Mann but my advice would be to take a detour to Tithebarn street and hit Shenanigans for the Man City v Spurs game at half 5.

For food, then Fazenda is great rodizio for steak. Good stuff and would be nearby. Would strongly advise to book it in advance though. If that doesn't suit, then CAU is a good Argentinian restaurant on Castle Street is great steak as well.

Back to your hotel then for a treble-S before heading back out. I would then suggest that you get to Hope Street / the top of Hardman Street and work your way down from there (it's all downhill!). Fredericks is a good spot and the Philharmonic Dining Rooms is worth a pint in if you haven't been before. Then work your way down Hardman St. The Old Blind School is okay - there might be some visuals there. Across the road Fly in the Loaf is good.

By then you are likely to be full of booze but still want to stay out and enjoy a drink with your brother. Get to the bottom of Hardman Street and go to Berry & Rye. This is just a black door on Berry Street but is a good speakeasy style place that do great whiskey cocktails. And it stays open late.

If you were mad for road then get to Seel Street - which is off Berry Street - and just follow the smell of clunge..... ha ha

For hangover cure the next day, then a burger in Almost Famous wont let you down!!

I had my birthday dinner a few years ago at the Rodizio Bar near the Liverpool town hall. It was good I thought.
                              Are we winning?
