Can't help thinking you're exaggerating a bit there PTP. No way are Leicester getting a shot on goal against us. I've corrected your prediction above.

Boss not expecting huge Leicester City changes

Jürgen Klopp does not expect Liverpool to come up against a vastly different Leicester City outfit on Monday, despite the departure of manager Claudio Ranieri earlier this week.

The Premier League champions sit just a point outside the relegation zone having lost their last five outings in the English top-flight, and opted to part ways with the Italian on Thursday as a result.

The removal of Ranieri comes in time for the Reds' trip to the King Power Stadium, but Klopp believes the change has come too late to significantly impact preparations for that game.

When asked about the possibility of the Foxes posing an entirely new threat, the German told reporters: "After the press conference, we will have our opposition meeting, so we will see how our scouts react on this.

"[First] game without Ranieri, I don’t think they will change it, I am not sure. Probably the two assistants will [take charge], so that's not a change, it's only a little different situation.

"Of course, probably the players have to show a few things and they want to - and our job is to not let them, that's difficult enough. Things I can’t have influence on, I cannot really think about.

"If we play our best, we will be difficult to play against whoever, and that's the thing we think about."

Ranieri's last game in charge saw Leicester notch a vital away goal as they went down to a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in the first leg of the sides' Champions League last-16 tie.

Klopp is wary that Jamie Vardy's 73rd-minute strike in that fixture may have provided a timely confidence boost for Monday's opponents, but says it is up to his team to ensure the hosts cannot build up a head of steam.

"I saw the Champions League game and it was unbelievable the change in this one second when they scored the goal," he added.

"Maybe they can keep this, and we have to make it not too easy for them to bring it on the pitch. Or, if not, it's a job not to let the confidence grow.

"Again, we have to play our best football, that’s what we’ve been working on for 15 days now. It should be possible, but it's our job first to do and then to talk about."

In the absence of FA Cup commitments, the Reds will have gone 16 days without competitive action by the time they run out at the King Power Stadium.

But the manager is hoping that won't result in rustiness from his charges, and said: "We are used to it. A two-week break, it's not that we left the country and didn’t play football for a year.

"It’s two weeks, that's not a real problem. We played in La Manga - an internal game but it was a proper game - and we had sessions.

"When you have games every three days you say it’s too much but when you have one a week or a two-week break then it's not enough.

"It’s our job to do and we know this. We have to be spot on Monday night and play the best football we are able to do."

Jürgen Klopp's LFC fitness update: Lovren, Sturridge and Wijnaldum

Jürgen Klopp has confirmed Dejan Lovren is set to return to training following a knee injury, while Daniel Sturridge is also on course for a comeback after a virus.

Lovren has been out of action since Liverpool’s draw with Chelsea on January 31 due to the issue, meaning he did not join his teammates on the mid-season trip to La Manga; however, the centre-back has stepped his rehabilitation at Melwood this week.

Meanwhile, Sturridge did fly out to Spain for the training camp, but returned to Merseyside ahead of the rest of the squad because of illness.

Offering an update on the fitness of his squad ahead of the Reds’ clash with Leicester City on Monday night, Klopp said: “Unfortunately not all of the players could join us [in La Manga].

“Daniel tried to but unfortunately we had to send him home because of a virus infection. He will probably come in today for the first time, [he needed] a few days.

“Dejan Lovren could not join us, but he trained today, he was running today – it was possible and he felt good. He could now do a few more steps in the right direction so that’s good.”

Expanding on the injury sustained by Lovren, Klopp revealed how the defender visited a knee specialist in Germany to discover the underlying cause of the pain.

The manager continued: “If it would have been completely simple it would not have taken this long time. Before the Chelsea game he was struggling a little bit, but then when he was warming up it was getting better so he could play - and played really well.

“After the game, the pain was too big for him, so we gave him a little rest with treatment and made some diagnosis. In the end we could not find the 100 per cent clue, so we sent him to a specialist who found a few things, not directly in the knee where he had the pain.

“The knee is fine, but the pain was there. They sorted these things around [it] and I spoke to him five minutes ago and he [told me] he felt really well when he was running outside and so now he should be able to train tomorrow.

“He will be very, very close - tight - for the Leicester game, but having him back in training is of course good for us.”

Elsewhere, Klopp revealed Georginio Wijnaldum picked up a calf issue in training this week, but will be fit to make the trip to the King Power Stadium on Monday.

“He has had some little problems in training this week, he got a real knock on his calf but it should be no problem,” said the boss. “Yesterday he could run and today he could train, so that’s important.”

Liverpool 'jinx' referee replaced by lucky omen for Leicester trip
Lee Mason unwell and Michael Oliver comes in for King Power trip

The referee has changed for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

Lee Mason was due to take charge of the fixture but he has been forced to rule himself out of action due to illness

As a result Michael Oliver will be the man in the middle as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to build on their morale boosting victory over Tottenham a fortnight ago and increase the champions’ relegation worries.

It’s a change which will please many Liverpool fans with Mason regarded as something of a cunt.

The Greater Manchester official was the referee for Liverpool’s Premier League defeats to Burnley and Hull earlier this season. In contrast, the Reds’ record with Oliver in charge this season is excellent.

The 32-year-old reffed their 4-3 win over Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season as well as the 2-1 win at Swansea in October.

Oliver was also in charge for the home thrashings of Watford (6-1) and Stoke (4-1). His last Liverpool match was the 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford last month.
