    Ben Woodburn

Don't think there is a thread on him in here yet, which is a surprise considering how much we love to hype up a young player.

I get the feeling that he might be something a bit more special than the average player from the academy. He has broken through much younger than some of the other players who have come through recently (at 17 years), and never seems to be effected by the big stage.

As we have seen with young talented players like Markovic, mentality/confidence goes a long way to delivering success. Hopefully he has as much of it as he has shown to date and become a 1st team regular for us.

Surely he is the one if any who will make the step up to the 1st team from our current crop?

I think he looks ****e, early doors mind but he doesn't look anything special.
Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

TAA will be the next first teamer from the youth set up.

Woodburn has a lot of development ahead of him and he hasn't got searing pace so as a forward it may take him a bit longer to really break through or he may not make it of course.

I am a little excited though as his movement, touch and finishing are already a bit special.

He's a hell of a talent. Intelligence off the charts, looks incredible in the ressies when more central so hopefully he can get some minutes there before he's written off by loads in here.

Don't worry about that other bloke. He's just a grump.

I agree that from what I've seen at junior level he does look promising & he hasn't looked overawed when playing with the seniors in the few cameos. A long way to go to prove himself but hopefully Klopp can keep his feet on the ground.

His top speed isn't the very highest but he's quick off the mark and can definitely put a little bit of distance between himself and defender from a standing start. Torres had the same thing where he was quicker than the defender over the first yard or two and it stood him in really good stead.

From what little I've seen of him, he looks a very good player, very technical and composed and good decision making....felt for him a bit against Burnley because a better ball by Mane and Woodburn was in

But I'm not sure what he is yet? I've not seen him play in the ressies so don't know, is he a striker, a winger/wide forward or a false 9?

Agree with you on him being a more intelligent/technical player, he isn't super quick but that hasn't paid off for lots of our youth players who looked decent and we can't expect every youth player to just be a lighting quick winger because Sterling was. I think he will have a role to play across the 3 behind the striker, where he is best suited to the number 10, but is probably more likely to feature from wide areas like Coutinho does.

What was Kane like at 17? Probably a wirey lad like Woodburn.

Nowehere near as good as Woodburn I would guess. Would have been long written off by fans if he was here. Didn't make his breakthrough until 21 after multiple loan moves, fans would have been looking rid at 18.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Kane only started regularly for Spurs when he turned 20. Different players mind you.

Kane did the circuit around clubs on loan when he was finding his way.

As I suspected, it will be a few years before Woodburn is good enough for a regular place.

Should we not be looking to loan him out for a few years?

i think when Klopp looked at when he first came to LFC, he saw young players out at clubs but not really getting good experience. You want a young player to go to a club and get experience playing similar football to LFC.....
