He got lucky with that goal, the ball bobbled of Cannavaro's knee. It could of gone anywhere, but fell in his path. Decent finish however.
For a minute there I thought I'd gone mad and Carew was actually decent, from what I remembered Rafa shipped him off on loan in favour of the decidedly average Mista, and his whole career he's bounced around numerous clubs not doing very much...thanks to you and the others with some facts my confidence in my sanity has been restored

        Ged at Lyon.

        Lets see:

Inherits a 4 times in a row title winning side built by Le Guen with a flair for attacking.

He doesn't sign the players. Aulas does.

Fine he's done well there - then again which manager worth their salt wouldn't being put in that situation? - but with us where he had compete autonomy over the footballing operations he was shown to hideously out of his depth.

Carew's a horrible player. Just like Heskey. 95% of the time he's useless.

Niall, I figured a Houllier thread would be like a red rag to a bull with you - and I don't disagree with you that Houllier seemed out of his depth toward the end of his reign.

But..I'm curious - who do you think is a better judge of a player based on their signings while manager at Liverpool - Ged or Rafa ?

In regards to the thread - I will always respect GH for what he helped us achieve but the time was right for him to go and his style is obviously more suited to the French league. I also agree with what Niall (Mansonssquint) said about inheriting a good squad.

                        I agree.

I still wake up every morning thanking god that GH is no longer our manager.

However, I have to admit, I'm surprised at how well GH is doing at Lyon. Even though he inherited a brilliant attacking side who had won the league 4 times in a row as well as having ten times the amount of money of any French side I really thought he would make a right mess of Lyon.

I'd love to play Lyon in th enext round and smash them to pieces.

I was thinking about how we'd have played against the Arse last week with Houllier in charge. We'd have been far more cautious and aimed at hitting them on the break... maybe just Bellamy up front for his pace, with 3 central midfielders to break their game up and two wingers. I think we'd have won too... is Rafa too attack-minded or is the problem just that we're not good enough to play his positive game yet (which is why we're getting dicked - under Houllier we seemed to go seasons without losing 3-0), but when we are we'll be be amazing? The latter, I hope.

And this is what concerns me most. Not only under GH did we not lose heavily often but I can't remember uncle Roy's or even Souness's teams ever losing 3-0 and 2-0 twice in the premiership by Christmas. These sort of results are simply not acceptable and it has made me doubt Rafa for the first time since he was appointed.
