3rd Qualifying Round Draw 14 July
Play Off Draw 4 August
Liverpool have moved a step closer to discovering their Champions League play-off opponent after the draw for the third qualifying round.
Nice, widely considered one of the toughest sides the Reds could meet in the fourth round, will take on Europa League finalists Ajax in the tie of the round.
That means Liverpool – guaranteed to be seeded for the next stage – could avoid a reunion with Mario Balotelli, whose 15 goals helped fire his side to third in Ligue 1.
Of the other four matches, Dynamo Kyiv's game with Young Boys is the one could have bearing on the seedings for the next stage.
Kyiv, along with Ajax, are the sides scheduled to be seeded if they progress to the fourth round – but defeat for either the Ukrainians or Dutch would see Viktoria Plzen, of the Czech Republic, seeded if they navigate past Steaua Bucharest.
CSKA Moscow, who would be next to benefit from sides with higher coefficients being eliminated at the third round stage, will face off against AEK Athens.
In the other tie, Club Brugge with meet Istanbul BB, with the winner highly likely to be a potential opponent for the Reds when the fourth round is draw on August 4.
Sevilla and Napoli will join Liverpool as seeds for the final qualifying round, while Sporting CP and Hoffenheim will be unseeded in the draw.
Third qualifying round draw (ties to take place 25/26 July and 1/2 August)
FCSB (ROU) v Viktoria Plzeň (CZE)
Nice (FRA) v Ajax (NED)
Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) v Young Boys (SUI)
AEK Athens (GRE) v CSKA Moscow (RUS)
Club Brugge (BEL) v İstanbul Başakşehir (TUR)
Potential teams Liverpool could meet (based on club with higher coefficient winning their third round ties):
There's a few potentially tricky ties in there, none of them will be a walkover.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
