My mate played against Potter in pre season vs MK Dons years back and you want to see Potter, he was outstanding in comparison to every other player. Just shows you the standard at the very top. I always remember Luke Chadwick was playing too, loads of lads on the sideline had those milk teeth jellies and they were ripping the life out of him. Poor ******* had some set of choppers on him

I played against Dom Foley, Willie John Boland and a few other Irish underage internationals regularly in the Limerick leagues. It’s mad that none of them really stood out compared to others who bombed on trials in England

I always remember playing a match when I was a kid against a team called Leicester Celtic here in Dublin and there was this little posh ginger haired kid with a bowl head playing for them, few of the boys were slagging him off.. until the match started. Rang rings around us, it was Damien Duff.

I played for Shamrock Rovers from 15s and tore the **** out of my hamstring just before we went u21s. I was always injured always ffs, lads used to call me Dan Anderton but got to play against few lads that made it likes of Robbie Keane, Ritchie Partidge and Richie Dunne. Dunne bounced me around the place ffs. Of all the players though we really did think Partidge was going to be a star, the speed of him was ridiculous. The step up is insane. I think alot of kids go over and think they've made it but that's when the real hard work starts and it must be really hard being away from family at that young age.

One of the most talented guys i've seen coming from here going over was Keith Foy he's from my estate, such a talent. Played 40 odd games for Forest but was a serious sessioner and destroyed his career. Such a waste.

Ha. It's crazy. I played in a centre mid two with a guy who played for Burton and Kidderminster when they were in the 'Conference' as it was called then. Never made it into league football. It was after he'd retired and started working for the civil service, and we had a work team that played other government departments. He was about 35 at the time. In my other teams I'd always been the one who got on the ball, but with him I did all his dirty work cos he was so much better than me. He strolled around with all time in the world, like Jan Molby. Made everything look so easy, and he never made it out of non-league. Really is mad isn't it.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Yeah it's crazy stuff, the guys that make it at the highest levels are just off the charts.

There was a guy who grew up in my town - best under age player I ever saw. Off the charts good but wasn’t the sharpest tool in the box…… went to Norwich in trial at 17 and tore it up. Was meeting the academy manager and a few others for a dinner and chat. Will you have a beer…… ya why not, and another, and another……

They didn’t sign him and word spread so did t get picked up in England. Played LOI for Waterford, Limerick, Merview but booze always got the better of him. Started playing junior for Fairview, Pike Rovers etc and they used to send people to the pub to check if he was there……. He was being paid by these non pro clubs.

He gained weight but still scored plenty, lost his pace and dropped leagues. Was a raging alcoholic when he was 30 and was as wide as he was tall. I saw him washing cars outside the local supermarket pre Covid. He died last year - mid 40s….

The best player I ever saw - we won the Munster schools with him, he was on the Oscar Traynor team for Limerick at 17. Saw him score goals you wouldn’t do in FIFA…… I guess every town has one - v sad

Page 3 FFS. Trying to recall what my expectations were when we signed him. Fair to say it wasn’t as much as this!

                      Where does the time go?

Think it has exceeded his wldest expectations as well.

Still think my favourite moment from him was against City when he chased the ball the whole way back to the keeper. Was one of those moments that had me punching the air and roaring him on like a madman as he advanced.

Ha, it's funny that his impressive list of achievements are in that Tweet, but that run was one of my first thoughts too.
