He’s a senior player, should be smart enough to realize he has bigger fish to fry at the moment, than an international friendly. At this point, if he’s out for a few weeks, I would say the left back is Gomez’s place to lose until the end of the season. If he continues to deliver as he has been, I would say if it’s not broke, don’t fix it, especially if there’s only 5/6 games left when robbo comes back.

Give robbo Europa and bench appearances and let him try to win his place back.
His previous injury had nothing to do with his new one. Taken out by a keeper bad landing on shoulder last October. Taken out by full on tackle lands on ankle last night.

If he doesn’t want to get injured he may as well give up football full stop. Could happen any time he steps on the pitch in full contact environment.

Agree about place being awarded on form tho - however if fit there is not exactly going to be a lack of games.

It’s just frustrating losing players in such meaningless games.

More so when these games are crowbarred into an already congested fixture list.

Ferguson was a master of pulling his players, Giggs was all the time, plus I remember he got Smicheal pulled from a squad with a hip injury and sent him to Jamaica for week to get some sun and he was back playing in the next league game.

Smoking a few joints in Jamaica probably helped as well lol

To be honest, I feel his time as first choice is short. He was once our most consistent player but has been run into the ground. His swashbuckling style has ceased and he looks a bit laboured when he gets forward. He might make a fantastic backup, but to challange City we need a bit more.

I feel a bit sad for him tbh. If we had a better option to rotate him over the past 7 or 8 years we might have prolonged his amazing fitness a bit. I dont think we can afford to be sentimental about it though.

Not sure about all of that.

Has Robertson looked a bit off the past 6 to 12 months? A bit but that is off by the standards he himself set for the role of left back.

Compare the him of now to the majority of other left backs in the league, and even across Europe, and he squares up pretty well.

Think for us he has gone from being the guy who looked like he was the best LB in the game to being a guy who is "only" one of the better left backs around.

Could we improve upon him? We probably could whereas a couple seasons ago the answer to that question would have been a hard no.

However the list of guys who, in my eyes of course, would be 100% improvements upon him is still a very short one and how many of those guys are available is an even shorter list.

Potentially available is the only list we should be thinking off too.

The one guy I would have over him, Alphonso Davies, is supposedly moving to Real Madrid in the summer.

And I would have Davies over him if the new manager wanted to play with a very attacking left back. New guy wants a very different set up and someone else might be needed.

Ait Nouri at Wolves I think *might* be at a point in his development that matches where Robertson was when he joined us. So he would be my second choice to replace Robertson but I would want Robertson still here for at least the first 6 to 12 months after buying Ait Nouri and let them battle it out to see who starts the most in that time.

Our own Joe Gomez I would start at LB before Robertson at present too, however that is because I am a big fan of playing the guy in form over the guy with the bigger name. Robertson comes in and rattles off a string of good performances and the position goes back to being his to lose again.

Do think the fact we can even be discussing whether or not Robertson is good enough anymore just shows how strong the squad is though. At least 75% of the other teams in the league he would walk into their starting line ups and I am probably underselling it by saying 75%.

Is a drum I bang quite a bit but bit if we are talking about guys who were called the best FB in the world, I would be more concerned about TAA, in terms of both form and contract duration, than I would be over Roberston.

Thought Robertson played well against City and showed signs of finding some good form.

Hopefully he's fit to do half an hour against Shef Utd, then the full match against Man Utd.
