100m? What about his left foot, wouldn't any team want that too? ;o)Originally posted by greenturnip View PostI don't think the club will tolerate losing him on a Bosman. That's £100M or so right there. So things may come to a head fairly quickly, despite what Jurgen says about there being no rush.

As much as I would love to get another year out of him and as annoying as it will be if it's a financial decision to lose him, if it's a case of cashing in for £100m+ now or losing for free in a year, it's a bit of a no-brainer for me. Sadly.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

If he's wanting close to 500k a week then at his age we'd have to say thank you, absolute legend but sadly goodbye. He's not bigger than the club and I still think he wouldn't get the numbers he does here anywhere else in Europe. He's an absolute one off but I'd be confident we could replace him and still challenge, provided klopp stays for a bit.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Fair enough. Except that post-COVID, and mid-Ukraine, the world economy is shrouded in uncertainties. Investors will be cautious. Spending may be affected. Add to that his age - and having to pay £0.5M per week for his services - I'm not sure anybody apart from PSG (City?) could afford that. And why go to PSG for footballing reasons? Mbappe is off (to replace MoOriginally posted by S-RED View Post100m? What about his left foot, wouldn't any team want that too? ;o)
), Messi isn't getting any younger etc. So I reckon we would be offered and would accept less than his 'true' market value. Just a guess.

There are very few clubs in the world who can afford those wages AND would pay them (City, PSG maybe Real qualify). And rightly or wrongly we are not one of those. As much as I would want him to stay I would be disappointed but not angry if he was sold/left. Given our record in the transfer market in recent times I would see us investing it in a way that would help the club grow. I could live with that.
