Here is a mad one for ya, Saka gets lauded as being world by the media and again this season his praises are being sung. Salah on the other hand is having a careeer worst season.

Saka has 4 goals and 1 assists in the PL

Salah has 4 goals and 2 assists in the PL.

Now I know Arsenal are on top of the league, but Saka by all accounts has been very average to poor at times in open play ( as has Salah) despite the pundits bigging him up whereas it is open season on Salah who has posted slightly better numbers.
True that one poor season doesn't wipe out his amazing legacy, but he will be remembered with some bitterness due to his decline.
Players who leave when they have more awareness of their impending decline are remembered with more fondness as great servants who went at the right time

Is all about opinions I guess, but I cannot knock Mo for thinking he still has something to offer. He will not be the first sportsperson to think he is still at the highest level when everyone else sees otherwise and he will not be the last.

Every boxer thinks he has one last winning bout left in him and I imagine top footballers are cut from the exact same cloth.

After the season he had last season, he (along with the club) probably thought he might have another Mo Salah level season (in terms of goal and assist return anyway) left in him before getting a transfer next summer.

His decline is not on him and him getting too many games is not on him.

Hell if Slot knocked on my door and asked if I wanted a few games then, despite me knowing better, you lot would have to put up with me coughing up bits of my lungs (in Ultra HD live on Sky Sports ) after 15 minutes each game and I am just some dope on a website and not a top (former or otherwise) footballer like Mo who no doubt still has an elite mentality.

        100%

We are fairly spoiled as a support. We actually get to experience winning trophies. Real ones too CL and now prem titles.

The guys that lead us to these glories that we will brag about for ever, deserve utmost respect. Most teams and supporters would swallow a season like we are having now in a ****ing heartbeat if it were preceded by one that delivered a league.

Expectations are rightly high and we are so far below what is expected / demanded this season that things will undoubtedly change. But legends are legends and we’ve had a few bona fide legends over the last 8 or so years.
        Modifying post.

As much as we're piling in on Slot he deserves his face on our legendary managers flag. Controversial as it may sound he should be there ahead of Benitez. Winning us a PL, number 20 no less, is already legendary in my eyes.

Now back to replacing him, if he doesn't change things around soon.

          And Salah!

A large % of teams and supporters get to swallow seasons like what we are having every single season with a close to zero chance of winning anything big in their lifetimes. And yet they turn up year after year and continue to dream.

As you rightly stated, we are spoiled as a support and maybe need to learn how to take some of the rough from time to time.

Mentioned it in some other thread jokingly about someone needing to support a local team, might have been to FrankTheTank as he is also Cork based, but to expand on that. I have a season ticket with Cork City FC and go to home games on a regular basis. This season we made it to a cup final but in the league we won 4 games in the league all season (out of 36 games) and lost 20 and yet the noise from the stands for home games continued unabated.

We as Liverpool supporters are witnessing our team having the season ( thus far) of a mid table team and we are acting like it is the end of the world.

Unlike most supporters at the majhority of other clubs, we can be fairly sure that at some point our club will be back at the top end of the table and also competing for cups, surely some lows should just make up appreciate the past highs and also look forward to the future ones.

With him contracted, we should receive a nice amount for him. He will still be a massive draw to Saudi as a high profile Muslim player. I imagine that was part of our thinking when offering him a bumper pay packet, it was just us protecting an asset.

If he carried on scoring, then great. If not, he can't walk for free. A gamble worth taking.

I think he will be gone in January.

Well said Buzzo. Ditto this 1,000%

We are a fortunate group of supporters in terms of trophies, and unfortunately it takes seasons like this one to help us appreciate that a little more

Most supporters will never get to experience anything close to what we have.

Even in the worst years the team still won trophies.

Having to go through the Hodgson experience and seeing players like Konchesky and Voronin and many others I will always appreciate what we’ve seen in recent years. While we get frustrated at times and vent on here these guys will go down as absolute legends and a drop off like Mo is having won’t change any of that.

A club legend but looking like this will be his last season with us. Given us everything and almost single handed at times last season delivered us number 20.

Shows how reliant any club that wants to deliver trophies will ultimately be on that one player to deliver goals on a regular basis.

It always feels like this at the end, some seeming to revel in it others less so.

At its peak Salah, Firmino and Mane was literally the best attacking three IÂ’ve ever witnessed - literally the perfect balance. Saw an interview with the Ox recently and he summarised why they were so good and how their different qualities dragged us to victory at different times.

I look at Salah this season and the thing that really strikes me about him was him in floods of tears infront of the Kop against Bournemouth. His post about for the first time being scared about going back to Liverpool to face the grief and bereavement.

I choose to be forgiving about his form this season, with all of them because it looks like an emotionally fragile environment which will be affecting both the existing players and the new who turn up to this grieving group. I even feel his motivation to earn a new contract ultimately was the driving force to us winning the League last season and if this contract isn’t working out then it being signed was worth it for that title.

                    But that’s just me.

The end of the Salah and Van Dijk era is nigh.

To be fair, we'd have won the league if he hadn't ultimately signed the new contract.

Bit optimistic to expect to get 15 minutes of running out of Joe Cole at any point of his career

He just doesn't have pace. So should be played in the box imo

On the wing, he is finished.

Exactly this. There’s no point playing him on the right when he can’t cut in onto his left anymore.
