By the letter of the law it is dangerous play and a red. What annoys me is the laws are subjective around it. It's only dangerous if a player is caught by the boot really. If Mane had done that and controlled the ball away from the GK then nothing happens.

There was a goal last season, I think Norwich, where an overhead kick was ruled as dangerous play as a defender tried to head the ball but the player wasn't even booked IIRC.

When I played these things were put down to a 50/50 and that's how it should be IMO.

      I tend to agree.

Ironically Mane would have been fine to lead with his head like the keeper did.

I wouldn't like to have seen the result of that.

You are either allowed to challenge for the ball or not.

Would have been happy with one point at their ground, have to settle for zero. Hardly league champion or top four decider.

Edit: glad Ox and Solanke got a run out. Using the squad wisely, simple things but happy that Klopp can see these things. Brendan would have brought on Sturridge.

I hope the lads take a long hard look at themselves and this becomes a springboard for a run of results

Long term I do feel as though need to have the capacity to do a Mourinho and totally close down the game. Even if we only deploy it on days like today.

Defensively we are poor at the best of times, we only know one way to play and while it works in alot of circumstances situations like today are always likely. Going all out Mourinho is the way we had to play to really, but we don't have the players, organisation or discipline to play that way. We need to improve the defence fullstop that's something that we've known all summer, it's easy to use the red card as an excuse but regardless of the number of players on the pitch the defending was poor and needs to improve.

Whether you think that the red card was correct these types of situations can and do happen, if we'd been able to shut the game down and maybe nick a point that would have been a great result, even if we had just lost 1-0 or 2-0 that wouldn't have been the worst, but getting turned over 5-0 could cost us come the end of the season.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Mourinho can't go all out Klopp though can i? You are asking a manager to change his philosophy on occasions, Pep, Maureen or Klopp all play there tried and tested way come what may.

We are weak in defence, and with the right people hopefully it could be fixed, like has been said before in this thread. we have just played one of the best teams and we had 10 men, never stood a chance.

It's not just about the defenders, we need to defend better as a team. After the sending off we didn't know how to play and the way we capitulated is a worry. Too many heads dropped, usual suspects as well, you can forgive the youngsters but the seniors inexcusable.

Not convinced they're better, and 5-0 defeats are generally surprising.

So what scoreline would it take for you to admit they're a better team?

I reckon we'd thump them if they had to play an hour with 10 men. We've given them a few thrashings over the last few seasons 11 v 11.

I'm not sure really, as I don't tend to base my opinions on a single game in isolation.

You must have been delighted today that we saw Man Utd are no better than Stoke? Poor example mind
