Everyone goes on about Mouinho being defensive yesterday but what was overlooked was the **** refereeing again. Phil had a blatant pen when that rat Herrara clipped him in the box and Darmian should have walked!

Atkinson clearly paid attention though, just wasn't given the opportunity to give them a pen.

I thought he was going to be alright early on, he ignored a couple of Ashley Young dives etc, we got free kicks when taken out then quickly reverted to type when it come to the big decisions. Unlucky for them they are such cowards as if they'd got in our penalty area in the second half he'd have given them a pen for **** all.

You could make a case for some decisions not going our way but just as easily not ... the referee obviously had an agenda to keep the game moving along ..Darmians high boot was nothing .. Phils peno was minimum contact. The only decision that incensed me was when Lukaku took out one of our players on wing .. cant remember who but he properly cleaned him out and it was not even a ****ing yellow that was a complete nonsense. My only complaint about this game is we are not clinical enough in front of goal for a top 4 side and we have not troubled the opposition goalkeeper from a corner since both our CBs scored in one game 1 million years ago, we seriously need to work on our corners

After reading some of the dross match reports where we were accused of negative tactics instead of Mourinho, it’s nice to read it as it really was.

I don't know how Mourinho has the nerve. I remember him slamming former West Ham manager Sam Allardyce for "parking the bus" having seen the Hammers produce a brilliant display at Stamford Bridge some years ago. He has also used the term to describe other performances by those who insist on containing the opposition and have refused to play an open game against his teams. So forgive my annoyance when Mourinho adopts the same tactics to save his own behind on occasions.

Thankfully, Liverpool did their best to make a game of it and none more so than the impressive Joe Gomez. This is a young, versatile English player who can play as a full-back or in central defence. What I like about him is he can actually defend, which is a rare quality in Liverpool's defence these days. He saw off Anthony Martial and later gave Marcus Rashford something to think about in a game in which Liverpool were allowed to dominate the play. Sir Alex Ferguson would never have subjected United fans, or one of his teams, to such a cowardly display, especially at Liverpool.

I am a little mystified why Sky and other pundits thought Gomez was that great

1st half he was all over the gaff positionally

To be fair that's from Garth Crooks so hardly the bastion of good reporting.

Obviously i hope Gomez turns a corner in his development, especially with TAA blowing hot and cold right now and in fairness in the second half I thought he was pretty good. Pretty good but with the caveat of he didn't have an awful lot to do defensively.
