Any idea why we have made this move?

Surely it's because they want people to register on the official site and listen to it on there.

Just seems a bit ******ish for minimal benefit to me.

If the games are negotiated with the BBC on a match-by-match basis, they are probably doing this because the club feels it isn't getting full value from the price the BBC is offering.

If we go through to the knockout stages, and go deep into the competition, these will be really big matches which could deliver a chunk of revenue to the club.

All the while, there is nothing stopping the fans from logging on and listening for free via the official. No brainer really.

I'd like to know the club's opinion on it, but seems daft to miss out on a wider audience. No other club fan/casual is going to sign up, people on the road won't have Internet access etc. I bet there's lads somewhere who listened on radio 13 years to the last CL group game and are now mad reds. I don't think game is on local radio anymore but might be wrong.

The website has global reach and I presume the club wants to control this market, which seems sensible. Would 5live pay for coverage (or pay a worthwhile amount) if the club were going to broadcast it anyway?

I couldn't care less about this, it's not as if they cover all of our matches so this will just be another one that they don't. If Utd were playing on Wednesday we wouldn't be on.

But we are talking domestic market. I think its short sighted to deny Radio 5 a place.

Cgancesare a lot of people listen to the radio when an internet connection is not as viable.. ie in the car etc.

Ignoring Cgancesare, nobody cares about them. They're talking abort the domestic market, we are talking global. Having taken the decision to broadcast it ourselves, who knows what the conversation with 5 live was, did they even want parallel rights? Did their offer even cover the sandwiches? Who knows?

If the website broadcasts for free, where is the commercial gain denying a radio station?

I've got a ticket for this off a mate. Will I have trouble getting in with his membership card as I don't want to get there and find the ****ers won't let me in?

Websites show all sorts of **** for free (ask Slinky) but it doesn't mean that they don't make money from the traffic.
