Without sounding too much like FB, i think i'm there with this team. It's the lack of effort that grates and a midfield well beyond its usefulness unless Thiago turns it on. Plus life sapping free time.
Although Gakpo will probably hit the ground running and we'll be edging games 7-6 or some ****.

He must be still recovering from that Pickford assault as he has been nowhere near his old levels. Getting older of course, but some of his 1 on 1 defending has been Traoresque at times. I do think his decline relative to the ridiculous standards he set is also part of the problem.
3-4 years ago he single-handedly stopped so many 1 on 1s and could recover quicker off the mark.
Still a very good player, still key to the squad but the rest of the defence don’t have the luxury of having that Virgil anymore.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

This could be his downfall. He looks like he has never hard to work at being World class, Like Messi it's just all so natural to him.

I'd have thought he'd have kept a high standard until a decent old age but not sure now.
Given his age, big wages, ACL injury, 2 years left on his deal I don't think we can even flog him for a load of cash.
