He’s the best centre back I’ve ever seen. You can pretty much pick a fault in any of the great ones over the years whether it’s aerial ability, pace, height or whatever, he’s basically like he’s been designed on a computer with everything set as a 10/10. He beats anyone in the air, reads the game brilliantly and can keep up with or out run the likes of Mbappe and Adama Traore. How’s an attacker meant to deal with that?

I've said the same. I remember on Pro Evo in the late 90s you could cheat and create these monster footballers. I used to make a 7 foot centre back who was fast as **** and could pass and could shoot and could do it all. He'd barge everyone out the way, and then glide past people and leather them in from 30 yards, as well as heading them in from every attacking corner and heading every defensive corner away. He more or less does that for us ffs. It's a joke.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Good angle of their chance from the Spurs end. I always played CB/CF so been on either side of that 2 v 1 situation. As an attacker you always want to put loads of distance between you and the other forward so the CB has to chose 1 or other. When Sissoko gets it at 7 seconds into that clip he should be staying in that dark lane of the pitch so he either gets a chance on his right or if Van Dijk comes over an easy tap in to Son at the far post, but they both get sucked into the middle. Sissoko only had eyes for a pass until Van Dijk done him, his jockeying and rocking back and forth between the two closing the pass off and the right footed shot.

he couldnt mark the two of them so he marked the space, but then stepped into son's space making sisoko keep the ball then go wider then vvd steps back to sisoko to make him go on his left.
        Subtle movements but

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Interesting to see it from that angle.

Van Dijk does an amazing job in not making Sissokos life easy, but Sissoko has the ball. If (as you say) he continues on a straighter run, then I think VVD has to go towards him meaning he can then square to Son.

He clearly has no idea what to do, and VVD knows that. It is elite defending, 2 v 1 and making it look simple.

Jermaine Jenas actually summed it up well. When Sissoko gets the ball the goal is 80/20 in Spurs favour. VVD keeps Son out of the equation making it 50/50, then forces Sissoko on his left making it 25/75.

          Just immense.
          Modifying post.

Who was out on here who didn't rate him, said he was **** for Southampton and only rated because he was a media darling?

What I also love about that piece of defending was VVD's lack of respect for Sissoko's attacking ability.

Another point. He was far enough away not to cause the shot to have a wicked deflection into the net and far enough away for Alisson to have a clear view and so he could position himself correctly

This piece of defending would have swayed any fencesitters with regard to POTY
