I vaguely remember some rhetoric that he made Lovren look good and that Lovren was in fact not that good without a solid defender. I can't remember the same being applied to Virgil but i don't doubt that someone made a cunt of themselves.

Yes you're right, I had a quick search after I posted that and the talk about Fonte in relation to us was definitely more along those lines

they were a very solid unit of 7. All their careers went to **** apart from Clyne when they left speaks volumes.

Was insane how effective they were, talk about being greater than the sum of its parts. Schneiderlin was thought to be the mutt's nuts for a while, but he was toilet for Utd and Everton seems about his level.

Man that piece of defending 2 on 1 in the 2nd half, there only a small handful of defenders in world football right now that you think they will be still, hard pushed to get past him

Hard to argue that CL and World Cup runners up medals for Lovren equate to his career going to ****

Would you say the last 5 years of his career since he left Southampton has been a success?

He was ****ing brutal under Brendan that’s for sure. But steadied himself and was decent for the majority of last season.

When he makes mistakes they tend to be howlers. But I think he is better than many give him credit for. I’d say the two finals constitute success.

I’m happy he sticks around as 3rd/4th choice.

Yes, it was all about lovren being the guy that looked good but without the intelligence of fonte telling him what to do he was soon found out at our gaff.

I still fume when i think southampton could see what our coaches couldnt and didnt go for van dijk earlier.
Imagine having had this guy with us since 2015 for only £13m...

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He's great, but it's a little weird. Obviously any good team relies on its best players, but it does feel as though we are over reliant on a few, including obviously VvD.
                        Really?

Nah, he's our best outfield player so we're bound to rely on him. We have performed ok when he's missed games though

If Daniel Sturridge had half of his attitude he could have been a worldclass striker

Virge strolls through brick walls at a leisurely pace does anyone think a tap on the ankle's gonna stop him?

                                Great point - agree completely

Virgil is only here just over a year. Another 2 or 3 years and he could be one of the clubs greatest ever players.
