However you look at that it's a red card, it's late, it's high, it's two footed, it's studs up, out of control and it's a scissor tackle, every pundit and former player that I've seen comment on it says it's a red card, former refs say it's a red card, how did the dickhead looking at it in the VAR box not see that? I can understand that the ref on the pitch might not have seen how bad it was, but that's what VAR is there for! It's a worse challenge that the Richarlison one which is a clear red card. I can't believe that anyone who is checking that for a red card can say that it isn't a red card.

The only thing that makes any sense is if they didn't check that for a red card because the VAR official didn't know the rules because of the offside, this was the suggestion at half time in the game and suddenly after the game this view is changed and the supposedly had checked for a red card, it smacks of PGMOL going into cover up / protection mode and the comments today about not taking further action because VAR looked at it are the next step in this.

There is a lack of accountability here that needs addressing, and the club are right to request explanations about what the hell happened, it will be interesting to see if / how PGMOL respond...
We were also robbed of injury time in both halves as the officials wanted off the pitch as soon as possible before they made any more f*ck ups.

The 5 minutes in the 2nd half was already a disgrace and the ball was barely in play for a minute of it.

Sickening performance from the officials from start to finish.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Only just seen this, (apologies for the source) I have copied the relevant bit

      https://talksport.com/football/77511...seyside-derby/

It appeared a certain penalty and sending off, but a VAR review showed Van Dijk was just offside before Pickford’s wild tackle.

It was initially reported that the offside cancelled out any serious foul play, which meant Pickford was spared.

But PGMOL then confirmed that the VAR had failed to check whether it was a red card due to the analysis of the offside and, as it was a SUBJECTIVE decision, they ruled Pickford had made a genuine attempt to play the ball.

On the incident, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher said: “If it’s an act of violent conduct it’s factual. A tackle is subjective because, is it serious foul play? That’s people’s choice and that’s where the dilemma was, they didn’t feel it was serious foul play so it defaults back to the offside.”
So was it checked by VAR or wasn't it? Because so far I've seen it wasn't (half time), then it was (full time), this article says it wasn't because it was 'subjective', but action can't be taken against Pickford because it was. Make your ****ing minds up.

They 100% didn't check for a red card - if they did then this would have flashed up on the commentators screen after they checked for the offside (it didn't as confirmed by the BT commentary) - also at least one journalist tweeted at half time that they had confirmation that there hadn't been a red card check.

The cover up is worse than the crime, either forgetting or thinking he's spent so long ruling the 'offside' is not as bad as actually revieiwing it and thinking 'nah that's fine'.

It was worse than Richarlidson's - which was itself a shocker ffs. Also if that had of been the Anfield derby it would have been a red card and Mane would have been onside in my opinion. Absolute cunt of a ref this Coote.

Additional time is a total nonsense at the best of times, it's supposed to be 30sec per goal and per sub, in most games that's probably about 4 mins before there are any stoppages, injuries, timewasting or VAR calls to take into consideration.

I wondered does each VAR check get displayed or relayed to the benches, TV/media folk? As presumably there should have been 3 checks, penalty, offside, red card. How many did show up?

It should be simple enough to prove, they have cameras at VAR HQ and they must record the conversation Coote had with Oliver. Release that and prove you looked at it.
We are here for a good time not a long time....

i've said it before and will say it again, they need to make the dialogue between the referee and his assistants / VAR assistant available for scrutiny. ideally this would be in real time but appreciate the language used may need to be edited or just release the transcripts. Either way, the decisions and crucially the information used to make a decision needs to be transparent.

No transcripts because they'd just fake them anyway - audio during the decision making is the only way to give the fans any kind of transparency.

I really feel like some kind of announcement by the official (either referee or VAR official) explaining the decision is necessary, I have in mind something like they have in the NFL. That would let the player, manager, fans in the stadium and TV audience all know the reasons (as well as what was checked).

I'd like to see Henderson lead by example and level a few of the Everton players at Anfield.

We seem almost too passive in that respect

Similar happened when Ramos ****ed Salahs shoulder in the Champions League final. How someone didnt attempt to crunch him at any point after that is a mystery to me.
