How does the timing work for CL squads? It would be annoying if he was fit to play very late in the season and couldn't. By the same token carrying someone in the squad who won't play until late, providing we progress.

But from his point of view he's 29, you could understand why he'd want to play in an international tournament, he won't get many more. Plus having a carrot when recovering from a long term injury must be massive.

Yeah but it’s only the Euros and a ****ty no fans version of it too.

He’d be better thinking long term and being in the possible nick when he gets into his 30s. And there’s a World Cup next year anyway.

We have to name squads before the next round and I believe that it for the season. As Davies is English and Kabak is under 21 I believe both can be added to the squad without anyone being removed (U21s don't need to be on the main list) and we have a space for a homegrown player anyway. Add to that Minamino leaving (freeing up a non-homegrown spot) and I don't see why we would need to remove anyone from the squad to add the new guys so I think we should be fine if VVD is back before the end of the season (and we are still in the CL)

Obviously he wants him there and i'm sure Virgil does as well. Might even be good for us if he has his preseason in that pointless knockabout.

Certainly from the club perspective (and hopefully the player's) but International football rarely takes this into consideration
