Well, potentially we can pay that. The key is not paying him significantly more than a potential buyer would so that he could be moved on if we felt it appropriate, or if he became unsettled. Last thing we want is having him wages that out way his contribution and find ourselves unable to offload the financial liability.

VVD I would offer an extension, on his current terms, of another 18 months come January.
Think he is the safest bet in terms of still offering a consistent high level of performance.
In theory TAA should be the safest bet given his age, but VVD is the one still putting in top level performances far more often than he does not. Think he is so good positionally that even if he loses another yard of pace that he will be able stay a top CB until the summer of 2026.
If he does not re sign this January, I would love to see the club going all out for someone like Bastoni to replace him.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Still the best CB in the world IMHO, and likely to be more than worth his place in the team for the next two seasons at least. I know it's a risk but I'd 100% keep him, even on a big contract. If 1 of the three had to go in order to keep the other two, as much as I love him, I'd wave Mo goodbye and keep Virg and Trent. It would be a terrible shame but for the best. It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

It's a bit of a calamity that its happened, especially with Trent. I can understand the reticent with the other two coming to the ends of their careers and we don't know any details of the negoition - other than the players seem to indicate there hasn't been much, if any.
But now we're in the predicament of trying to resolve three of the biggest contracts at the club at the same time in three months. Surely we can't do it piecemeal, i.e. announce a two year deal for Virgil, the first questions are going to be when are the others signing, etc.
From the players murmurings, it doesn't sound like any of them are done.

The situation with all 3 players hasnt been helped with Arne coming in. He and the players need to find out where they stand with regard to each other, playing style, etc….It could be said all parties seem to be happy with the seamless change of manager/trainer and the new variation of football being played. Internally its going to be a big couple of months for the club. It just for us to sit back and wait on the eventual outcomes

That phraseology seems a little harsh on Slot. The situation hasn’t been helped by Klopp’s decision to leave the club, there’s not much Arne, or any other incoming manager, could have done differently.Originally posted by Assassin View PostThe situation with all 3 players hasnt been helped with Arne coming in. The players want to get a feel for a new manager & the manager/ transfer committee want to be sure the manager wants them to stay. Here’s hoping it’s sorted sooner rather than later

Klopp went before his contract ran out and Slot has come in. The 3 players had 7 great years under Klopp. Then things changed almost mid season with Klopp leaving at the end of the season. If I was one of these players, I would have been only to willing to sign for the rest of Klopp’s contract. However, I would have been sceptical to sign a new contract when the new manager had not been named until the season finished. That takes us almost up to date, they have trained and played for the new manager for a couple of months now, all of them seem to be enjoying themselves. Slit Obviously likes them or he would have helped them move on (like a few of the younger players who featured heavily in the pre season). I think we will see movements soon with regards to contractsOriginally posted by SB View Post

Get it done.
He's absolutely imperious
A 2+1 contract on his current wages might protect the club a little more. That way if there is a drop off after two years we would not have to activate the ption of a third year.
Playing very much like a younger CB at present though and seems to be relishing having Gravenberch in front of him as an outlet.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
