He scored 7 goals last season, which is not bad. But yeah, he needs to absolutely tear it up in the Championship if he wants Prem clubs to maintain an interest.

Surely January would have been an option once the levels of desperation hit in?

You would hope that at worse he would have a solid career in the Championship

Out of interest how many of his goals were early on in last season? because it felt like he got off to a really good start first few weeks or couple of months then it all went downhill (although I can't remember that well as the last year feels like a lifetime) . Not sure if that was a confidence thing for him or if it was just how bad Bournemouth were or what

He doesn't have a good enough game - just a one-trick pony, cracking set-pieces and that's your lot.

Should be good enough for him to have a decent career but he's not mid / top prem material

I'd say he's Championship level. He really shouldn't have to fall lower than that talent-wise. His problem I'd say is he's always on the periphery. You can watch 20 minutes of a game without even noticing him! You can't get away with that in the position he plays.

7 goals in the PL last season is nothing to be sniffed at, thats the same as Jota, 1 more than Bernardo Silva. But I agree he doesnt look like a game changer (not that I have watched him play all that much)!

Clubs pay big money for goals I remember reading an article that each goal scored is worth just under £1m. He is just unlucky that his optimum time for a permanent move was during a period of financial uncertainty for the types of clubs that might have gambled on him.

In a better team he could do ok, he's never going to be a world superstar, but he is worth a £20m punt for a Prem team.

Might as well stick this here. League One again for Woodburn.

It'll be interesting to see how he does under Critchley as Critchley obviously knows him well and if anyone he should be able to get the best out of Woodburn. I fear that he will be another on who is bouncing around the bottom of the football pyramid in a few years as he seems to have been struggling in previous loan moves.

He scored 6 or his goals for Bournemouth by the end of November, as I said I thought he got off to a good start the numbers at least suggest that he is capable. I guess the question is was this just a purple patch, was his form in the last few months more his level or was his down turn in form because the team weren't playing well and he lost confidence and his level is somewhere between the two? I suspect the latter.

He was Bournemouth's top scorer IIRC.

Think the fact that they lost Brooks for the season and they tried phasing out Fraser because he wouldn't sign a new contract really affected them. Wilson also missed most of the season which was a big loss.

Think if he'd joined the previous year and he was playing as part of a functioning squad, it would have been a different story.

It's a shame for him that we had to play hardball as there were a few PL clubs interested in him.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Wilson made fewer starts for Bournemouth as the season went on. After the restart, he only started once and was subbed off at half time. Continued to come on regularly as a substitute himself though.

I made a comparison to Mason Mount around that point. Their numbers were very similar (not just the season, but career stats at that point), but Mount seemed to be involved more for me. If you take away both of their goals then I think Mount is still a decent player, Wilson really isn't unfortunately, and that's the difference.

Both played in the same Derby team and Wilson's numbers were better 18 goals to Mount's 11 (although I assume Wilson played a more attacking role). Last season Mount was in a much better side than Wilson so that's difficult to compare them based on that. To be honest I haven't seen enough of either (just MOTD really) so can't comment on how involved the two are. He seems a decent player but needs to find the right level/team.

Wilson turns 24 this season. I’m not sure why we didn’t just take the £12m + £3m that Burnley offered earlier in the window.
