For me this is the only way. Its not like they are going to bombard us with hoofball tactics. Raggy is deceptively good on the ground

I'm amazed people think Clyne can start this one. There's a gulf of difference between u23s and the premiership and then another gulf to the likes of Sane.

I'd have gone three at the back but Matip has ****ed that. Maybe Klavan might make a back three but he doesn't have the pace for City. So I think we stick with TAA.

It's probably not the best time to be radical, but Clyne at RB with TAA in midfield could add the element of surprise and stability that might just work. TAA is good going forward, is fit as a fiddle, and is used to the defensive part of the game too.

Assuming that Can is out, that would make a midfield of Henderson, AOC and TAA.

With Lovren to repeat his feat against Dortmund and get on the scoresheet, it's looking good.

You saw it here first (and probably last).
            Oh I don't know.

I also am amazed people are suggesting Clyne. Crazy **** man.

I would have gave Klavan game time in the last couple of weeks but it would be a huge risk to play him in this. Has he even played a game with VVD??

For me, the back 4 picks itself now.

I would consider Milner in midfield though. With the specific instruction to play right center mid and cover for Trent. I don't think Man City will play the dog**** long diagonal balls like United and Palace did. But if Trent goes all Cafu and spends his time beyond the halfway line, then the likes of Sterling and Sane will hurt us to ****. For me, Milner has the game intelligence to cover that.

With what we have, then I would like to see:

              -------------------------------------KARIUS--------------------------------------

              TRENT-------------VIRGIL-----------------------LOVREN----------ROBERTSON

              ----------------MILNER------------HENDERSON--------OXLADE----------------

              -SALAH--------------------------FIRMINO--------------------------MANE-MANE

As has already been said, it is our bench now that is a bag of ****e. Pity. To lose Lallana, Matip, Gomez all within a week - at this stage of the season - is a right kick in the cock.

a back three option is my prefered option, especially including klavan, as we are then better able to absorb some pressure and be a little less panicked in the full back position [taa, im talking about you lad].

                back three...

                .......karius.........
                ..lovren vvd klavan
                taa milner hendo robbo
                ..salah firmino mane

                back four...

                .........karius
                taa vvd klavan robbo
                .milner oxlade hendo
                ..salah firmino mane

klopp will probably go with the above back four option, but play lovren in place of klavan.

Klopp's just confirmed in his press conference that Matip is out for the rest of the season. Lallana is out with a hamstring injury but could be back before the season finishes. It's touch and go whether Can will play tomorrow but it's not looking good. He also said Klavan is not available. Talk about the squad being threadbare. I am officially worried

I'm taking this game as a free hit. So i'm only at Def Con 3, we aren't quite ready for moving beyond this level and sure as **** aren't when we start accruing injuries.

That said, we have a game to play so we may as well try and force a surprise and the injuries mean we need to move the dial to attacking football rather than trying to assume control and defensive solidity, which coincidentally is the key to beating City anyway. Make that Def Con 4.

Ultimately we've got Salah, Firminho, Mane, VVD, Robertson fit. Our best five players. The ones who make the real difference.

With Henderson in the team we don't tend to lose games.

The rest will come in and do a job.

Then there is the home crowd. Champions League knock out against an English rival. It will be mega noisy.

The injuries are unfortunate, but this is eminently doable imo.

There are any number of reasons why we could easily win this game. City are the better team, no doubt, but if we go through it won't be a shock an no sane minded football fan will be even slightly surprised.

Losing Matip is a blow, but it doesn't drastically change anything.

We beat City with Gomez, Lovren, Matip and Robertson. Is a back 4 of Trent, Lovren, Matip and Robertson a worse line up?

It's a shame City are likely to play Laporte at LB as I think Trent and Salah would have destroyed that young midfielder they have been playing LB. That being said, less for Trent to worry about from a defensive point of view, he can concentrate fully on Sane.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Klavan has to play, when he came in earlier in the season he did really well. We know that Lovren is a recipe for disaster at the best of times, let alone at these big fixtures.
