Just the short haul option for me.

Even shorter haul for me I think. The local pub.

There's a real dearth of football pubs where I live.

We've also got a couple of dear friends visiting that day (arranged months ago) and they both hate football.

It's gonna make for an interesting night.
            Oh I don't know.

You can't get them into it for the Champions League final? It's not just any old game

I've suggested that they come on Sunday instead. It's a bank account holiday after all.

Definitely not. My mate absolutely abhors it. We've got loads in common, but not sport.

Every time there's a game, there's some sort of clash for me it seems.

Labour Red, you be watching it on your phone at Titanic?
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Sounds like he has a more complicated relationship with football than simply disliking it or finding it boring

I guess it would be the equivalent of me going to visit someone only to have to sit through a night of watching darts among people who like darts.

I can sympathise to an extent.

Well you can't say you weren't warned.

Go on Red Cafe, I'm sure there will be plenty of takers there.

You need to ask yourself how dear these friends of yours are if they would make you miss the game
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
