Spurs fan I work with thinks they've not got a chance in either game. That's the spirit!Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostPersonally I see Spurs winning the CL tie is a much bigger thing for them than City, so I think that the danger is that they would take it a little easier in the league game after what would be a massive result in midweek. I guess the ideal situation would be Spurs going into the league game with a sense of injustice, having been hard done by and wanting to get revenge for being knocked out.

Sorry, with respect, i'm not for reading those ramblings.Originally posted by Nicey View PostConsidering Neville's comments I am now thinking its best United drops points against Everton. Its not beyond the realms for this scenario to play out
City Beat Spurs
Arsenal Beat Palace
United draw at Everton
Then the table will look like this
Games Played Points
City..........34............86
Liverpool...34............86
Arsenal.....34............69
Spurs.......34............67
Chelsea....34............66
United......34............65
Considering Spurs will qualify for the CL I am almost certain of that, what we are really looking at is a race between United Chelsea and Arsenal for 4th and Arsenal have by far the easiest run-in with all 5 games normally when they are playing well you would expect them to win. Even if Arsenal drop 3 points in their last 5 games that will still put them on 78 points, if United lose to City and win all of there remaining games it will put them on 77 points in 5th place, even Spurs again lets say they take nothing from City ... if they draw against Bournemouth away or West Ham then that puts them right back in the danger zone.
I genuinely think for both United and Spurs, a point for both them is good enough whilst city need all 3 points from both games which will play into both United and Spurs hands, esepcially United.
There is no way either team would go into that City game thinking its ok we can take a hit here
But Neville was incorrect last night. He reckons United should go all out against Barca and try and win.
And after that Everton is a must win. Then they should rest v City and if they beat Chelsea they'll be in the top four. That'd put them on 70pts with 36games played.
Spurs would need a win in three and Arsenal a win and a draw in three. Which would likely have united on fifth on goal difference.

I think we need them to get a result against City and that they are the best hope for doing that so absolutely do give a **** in this instanceOriginally posted by labourRed View PostI actually don't give a **** what united do. I'm not craving favours from them. If i were them though its pretty simple, they need to win every game they can. I don't think they'll do either City or Chelsea so its going to be super tight for them to scrape into the top four. Which is nice.

Just curious as to why you are so certain Spurs will get one of the spots? They only have a one point advantage over Arsenal (and Chelsea but with an extra game). On paper Arsenal have the easiest run-in. All those 4 sides are about the same in terms of recent form. They need to beat City at the weekend to stay ahead of the pack, even if they get a draw the could find themselves in 5th by the time this weekend's fixtures are over. And that is not taking into account the effects of going out of Europe or preparing for a CL semi final. I think it can be any 2 from 4 until the Man Utd Chelsea game. A slip up for anyone could be costlyOriginally posted by Nicey View PostConsidering Neville's comments I am now thinking its best United drops points against Everton. If they do that and are happy to see City win the league i'd be amazed if they make CL. Other teams would need a couple of slip upsOriginally posted by labourRed View PostSorry, with respect, i'm not for reading those ramblings.
