Liverpool became the first team in top-flight history to win as many as 30 games and 97 points in a season and not win the title.

No side has ever previously lost just one game in a top-flight season and not won the title - the previous record was also held by Liverpool in the 2008-09 season (two defeats, finished second).

Liverpool's tally of 97 points would have been enough to win the Premier League in all but one of the previous 26 seasons of the competition (2017-18).
The crushing one for me is that correcting every season to 3 points for a win our points total would have won the league in 113/116 English top flight seasons which is remarkable

I also read that it's the highest points total ever not to win the league in any of the major 5 leagues in Europe

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

As gutting as it is I think that the players probably needed something like this, hopefully the pain that they are feeling now will add even more desire to their game starting with the CL final and going forward, we are going to keep this side together for a while so, working together to make sure that they don't feel this way again.

Obviously they would all prefer the medals around their necks this time but hopefully it does them good in the longer term

Aye.....winning the CL would be sweet as ****.

Plus, the best thing....it is entirely in our own hands.

Fantastic season from a fantastic side, the scary thing is, we can only get better, Fabinho and Keita have settled, Salah is over his second season syndrome, OX will be better than ever and we'll have two or three signings as well. TAA and Gomez will get better still and Salah, Mane and Bobby are entering their prime.
            * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Paraphrasing Klopp from his post-match presser, but it was something like, 'if people from other clubs or whatever want to say it's been 30 years since we've won the league, they have bigger problems.'

It's just wonderful. We've finished 2nd, one point behind the champions, and in a Champions League Final for the second successive season. Apart from City, no one else can really say anything, because their clubs are not in our position, so Sky or whoever, can **** off.

THey have to take the uefa failure ,followed by the champs league failure & the lose of the league (not a faileure) & channel it in to to a monumental performance in Madrid & win. anything else would be heartbreaking

Proud. Not as gutted as I thought I would be. Expected city to cruise it. They've won 14 in a row, its madness.

Not been the fairy tale birthday I hoped for, but we now have to win the champions league. I fear for us next season if we don't but then again we have klopp and he can my worry instead. He knows mostly what hes doing. Head held high boys.
Happy Birthday Bob. Hope you enjoy the rest of the day, despite the result.

Each time we've finished 2nd in the Premier League-

                        01/02 - 7 points behind 1st
                        08/09 - 4 points behind 1st
                        13/14 - 2 points behind 1st
                        18/19 - 1 point behind 1st

                        We're getting closer

Ya know what, this will feel like a hollow victory to those plastic ****s, champions league is the one they wanted, **** citeh, No 6 on the way, then domination when pep throws his toys out the of the pram after losing the league next season. What a season, this is only the start.

Read that earlier before the game. Fair play to them they owed us nothing and were celebrating. Wouldn't have made a difference anyways as they are absolutely ****.
